RIP Franco Columbu....

A two-time Mr. Olympia.

He, more than Arnold, was the reason I got my academic act together and went to Penn State.

I thought, if he could become a chiropractor so could I. At 15, it was a dream I never thought I would see.

Both he, and Arnold, were nothing but POSITIVE POSITIVE POSITVE in the magazine's. They were truly an inspiration.

He came along when I needed him most.

I just found out moments ago, btw.

I'M IN SHOCK.

Sorry. Go crank out a great workout tomorrow in his honor.

I read that he suffered a heart attack while swimming and drowned, truly sad. Several years ago in an interview Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked about all the friends he’s made throughout his acting and political career, he quietly responded, Franco Columbu is my only true friend.

Were he and Arnold both steroid users? Just curious.

They were both unbelievable physical specimens. In one of those body building shows during the 70’s I saw Franco bench press 315lbs for 18 reps, he weighed 190lbs. I would have to guess that they both used steroids.

Loved Franco. Hated when he blew his knee out carrying a refrigerator in one of the first World's Strongest Man competitions

Here's a nice picture of Columbu, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno, and Arnold.

Zane was a mathematics teacher and Ferrigno is deaf, so put them together and you get me.

I saw Franco in person about 3 times. Saw him blow up a hot water bottle till it exploded. He was always the nicest guy you could meet. IIRC, only guy in the early days of the World's Strongest Man competition under 200 lbs.

To connect with what Felli said about Franco and Arnold being inspirations, it’s important to remember that anyone can improve himself in the gym. Time in the gym is never wasted, you always leave better than when you came in. If you take your kid to the gym, he’s going to see dedicated people working hard to better themselves. That’s a good thing for kids to see.
