RIP George Foreman

He was a great one. I still remember at my first job after graduation bringing my Foreman grill into the office with a salmon filet and having the grease run right into my trash can at my desk…

His fighting comeback... at like 50, really showed his talent.

He always seemed to rise above it all.

Legend.

Class act. Good man. Sincere Christian. Great fighter. Not a bad epitaph.

My two most vivid memories of his ring career:

First, his Olympic gold medal win in 1968 over the Soviet fighter. Foreman totally dominated and afterward trotted around the ring holding an American flag, which was quite a statement in those days when patriotism was not fashionable at all and earlier in the games two Black athletes had made a show of dishonoring the National Anthem.

Second, his massacre of Joe Frazier in less than two rounds in 1972. My memory is that Joe was still undefeated at the time but I don't think he was ever quite the same fighter after the brutal 15 rounds with Ali in the Fight of the Century the year before.

Truly the greatest and a real patriot and embodiment of the American dream!
