Very true.RIP Snake. You did not want him to have the last possession of a football game. He was cool with games on the line.
Oh man. As a lefty, the Snake was one of my heroes. Loved his 3/4 arm delivery and cut off sleeves.Died at 69 due to cancer saw it on a crawl on ESPNU
How is he not in the pro football Hall of Fame ? Seriously. Great player on some truly great teams from a great era in the NFL....Died at 69 due to cancer saw it on a crawl on ESPNU
A part of my childhood just left me.
I am so sad.
As a Raider fan growing up in the heart of Steeler country it was tough, the Raida's always managed to choke down the stretch. There were a few bright and shining moments however..."The Sea of Hands"
Man, what a game!
"The autumn wind is a Raider, pillaging just for fun...."
Snake, you will be missed.
"The Snake" was a stark contrast to his predecessor Daryl Lamonica. Lamonica, aka The Mad Bomber had a much stronger arm but not nearly as accurate and Stabler was much more adept at reading the zone defenses that were coming into vogue. Lamonica was a clean cut Californian who starred at Notre Dame and Stabler, from Alabama was rough around the edges but his personality fit into the Raiders' roguish tough guy cult much better.Died at 69 due to cancer saw it on a crawl on ESPNU
I had a very tortured and conflicted childhood. I loved the Raiders. My family used to harass me something fierce. One of my uncles knew Jack Ham and he convinced Jack to call me and give me a hard time about being a raiders fan. I was balling and everyone was laughing at me.
So, I was probably the only kid on central PA to have been personally harassed by a HOF Linebacker.
