Wrestlestat has him as "unattached". Has he officially departed the program?

Gotta feel for the guy with the injuries taking away a promising career.

I really liked him as a prospect but sadly injuries ended up tanking his career. Before the injuries he was a fantastic talent.
Is he retiring bc he can’t make starting lineup or he can’t physically wrestle anymore?? It he can still wrestle should just transfer and give it one more go…

Me too. He'll be remembered for that ridiculous NJ state finals match with the insane scrambles.

But in that and other matches, he was a mini Quentin Wright -- the guy who threw caution to the wind, attacked anyway, and figured it out later.

A shame his career ended prematurely, but he'll succeed in life.

He was a shell of himself last year before shutting it down. And has lost so many years to the same injury that he probably doesn't have another shot in him.

I can't tell you for sure but if I had to make a guess it's because of his injuries. That could mean he either isn't able to compete or his injuries have hampered him to the extent that he is simply not able to win a starting spot because of the limitations of his injury.

I'd surmise it was the latter. When we saw him with his last shot at last year's Black Knight Invitational, he left the mat after his final loss (to an average wrestler) with a decided HEW demeanor. He just couldn't do what he wanted to do out there any longer.

Zero doubt it's the injury (or the Suriano curse) the kid was a huge hammer. Very unfortunate end to what looked like another future blue and white national champ.
If Luke L doesn’t AA then there really is a Suriano curse.. highly unlikely though..

Spot on comparison, loved watching ROHO mix it up!

Going back further, I had a very bad feeling the minute he got up after getting pinned by McKee in the consys. His shoulder was immobile and he was grabbing it and he had a look on his face saying "Not again ..." Shoudlers are arguably the worst injuries to have in wrestling, especially folkstyle.

If there is one thing about Robbie though, he loved the team and the team loved him and he's going to go far in life.

In HS he lost in a major tourney before the finals -- IIRC it was Ironman semis.

Anyway, he lost because he was in close and instead of taking the easy finish, he went for a throw he didn't need from an underneath position and gave up 5.

Afterward, his attitude was basically: so what, it's just a regular season match, this is the time to try stuff and make mistakes.

Don't see a lot of HS stars like that, wholly unafraid to lose now in pursuit of future excellence.

Full nelson.

@Cowbell Man has harped on that match before, that the ref blew it and it cost Robbie another shoulder injury.

Can't see his Instagram post ... someone mind sharing his farewell?
He must’ve changed his IG profile to “private” but I still follow him. He has a post with a bunch of different photos of life (food, friends, beach, school) and the caption reads “First 6 months of retirement.” Beyond that feels creepy. I’ll prolly unfollow now and give him his desired privacy.

Ah yeah, that's the right thing to do (don't repost anything) I don't know if you have to unfollow him, he's okay with his previous follower base seeing his stuff but guessing he doesn't want random people to be able to search.

I wasn't sure if he released a legitimate graphic and statement, that's what I was hoping to read if it was there.

Yeah, on IG, he can delete followers if he really doesn't want them. Good luck in life. I hope he stays at PSU and close to the program even if he's no longer an active athlete.

Naw. We did allright last year--not ideal, but pretty surprisingly well. And I expect this year to be even better.
Didn't realize PSU wrestling was ok with "alright". You all have had a National Champ at each weight, multiple National champs at each weight since 2017, except for 125. Not even an AA. With the big named recruits you have brought in, I would say it is a curse. With that said, I really like Lilledahl and believes he gets you out of that slump/curse with an AA this coming season.

I'll take a true freshman conference champ from a recruit no-one (but him) predicted that from as a curse any day of the week, lol.
