Rumor Swirling That Big Ten Will Be Adding 4 New Schools This Week

If Arizona, ASU, Utah go to B12 then that is the domino for the B10 to pick up UDub and Oregon. B10 not blamed for ruining it. See ya Pac whatever.

And U$C can shut the hell up and take it like a man.

Indeed if Zona/ASU/Utah go to the Big 12, the PAC is effectively dead at that point and Oregon/Washington will take pretty much whatever reasonable deal the Big Ten would offer.

They can just rebrand the MWC and the Pac XII and add Stanford Cal Oregon State and Wazzu

So we’ve gone from “UW/Oregon will no doubt add hundreds of millions to the big ten media rights deal” to “once the pac 12 completely crumbles around them they’ll come crawling in for table scraps.”

IMHO the only reason for the Big Ten to add them now would be because they come at a significant discount due to being desperate. Otherwise they aren’t such valuable adds that they “need” to be invited. The only two schools that I think the Big Ten would offer and expand for are Notre Dame and FSU.

In regards to additional west coast adds, it had better be a sweet deal to convince all of the members of the conference to support it (ie a lot more money) to warrant the added issues of increased travel and playing traditional opponents less often.

It was funny that earlier they said Washington and Oregon wanted to save the Pac XII
This is all they ever wanted
Thank you Colorado for making it happen
ACC is going to get destroyed next...
Notre Dame is also only a matter of time.
It was never going to work with a streaming package, even if it was Big 12 level money. The Pac 12 leadership failed for over a decade.

Nope. Obviously the B10 will try and I believe be successful in leveraging the addition of these two schools for a richer media deal. If they cannot then the presidents should can the commissioner. Just because Oregon and UDub are in desperation mode does not translate into their brands having limited value that will not enhance a media deal.

As has been said numerous times on this thread, UDub and the Ducks open up the northwest to the B10. There are more eyeballs and better ratings than without them. That means more money. Additionally, the B10 should have had a clause in the current 7 year $8 plus billion dollar contract that as new schools are added this will automatically trigger a renegotiation of the contract. No, these media networks just don't get UDub and Oregon for free. They will come in at a discount and if I'm the B10 I want my current member schools to stay whole at the roughly $75 million per year per school rate. So if UDub and Oregon come in at say $40 million, half of the rate of everyone else then that is $40 million times 2 schools times 7 years or another $560 million added to the current media deal. Most likely UDub and Oregon will not agree to being at a discount for 7 years so probably what happens is the new negotiated contract has them at a discount for 2 or 3 years then another renegotiation kicks in to get them equal to the current schools. Pony up Fox. NBC and CBS!

I think the numbers for Oregon demonstrate they are worth more than the B1G average revenue. Oregon is 12th in tv viewership in the nation in 2022. Together Oregon and Washington are no worse than B1G average. At this point the wait is for the Big 12 to pull more schools away from the PAC12 so that we are not blamed for destroying that conference.

Nike makes it worth it on its own to bring in Oregon.

I think NIL changed a lot of things. Before, they could "say" it wasn't about the money yet, we all knew it was. With NIL, there is no more hiding it. It is about money, we all get it, and we all understand. College athletics is now completely competitive but that isn't on the court field or pitch, it is in the boardroom.

Adapt of die.

Yep...now the B1G has a footprint that includes San Diego to Seattle. That is 53,000,000 peeps.

I think we'll see the SEC snatch up the ACC, for the most part.

Then, who needs the NCAA? You get the SEC and B1G into a board room and make new guidelines. Screw the NCAA.

The SEC and Big Ten should just merge

I feel bad for WSU and OSU. Oregon state just finished a stadium remodel to be ready to start this season IiRC and now this.
I do as well. I truly do. If you look at that TV viewership list that’s posted in this thread, you have to wonder if WSU can get to the big 12 because they actually have pretty decent viewership. In fact, far better than Arizona or Colorado.

I think that was the plan all along with the B1G. I've read several times - like you mentioned - that the B1G didn't want to be labeled a predator by going after Washington and Oregon right after securing USC and UCLA

True but in reality taking USC destroyed the Pac

Probably an intentional media leak to try to squeeze the Big 10, or to get the Big 10 to ask the media partners for a bit more money.
Nike makes it worth it on its own to bring in Oregon.
It will be interesting with both Nike and Under Armor in the same conference now. Perhaps UMD and Oregon should have a protected trophy game.
True but in reality taking USC destroyed the Pac
The PAC destroyed the PAC. They had shoddy leadership and haven't adapted for a long time. The nail in the coffin was not getting a media deal done since the USC/UCLA move. The Big 12 stepped in and smartly grabbed one quickly, hanging the PAC 12 out to dry and leaving them only with a poor streaming deal option. Once that happened their members were looking for lifeboats in other conferences. Credit to the Big 12 commish, he took a conference in peril after losing OU and UT and quickly positioned them as the 3rd most desirable conference.

If FSU is available then why isn't Clemson the top team available?
I listed FSU because they are publicly trying to get out. Clemson is being fairly quiet about it. They know that they are the big fish in a small pond re ACC. Maintaining their recent success in the SEC or B2G would not be as easy.

But is survival even possible in the ACC...if you want to be a major program?
Maybe today but not in the next 3-5 years

Am I wrong to think having an odd number of teams would make scheduling easier? 13 week schedule where every week someone is either on a bye or playing a noncon seems like it'd be easier. The last week you just need 1 school to schedule their noncon rival. OU vs. ORST or UW vs. WSU maybe?

Also, Fox must be creaming their jeans knowing ESPiN has lost the entire west coast.

I don't know why there's even non-conference games at this point. 6 homes games for all is plenty with the TV money coming in.

NIL didn't make it minor league football. It's been minor league football for basically 40 years. Yes you're friends were playing minor league football even if they didn't know it.

People watch this minor league because they have attachment to the programs. Paying kids won't change that. Nothing will change that. Look at the ratings even with cable dying.

Let's not pretend people think of this as amateur sport...or have.
I disagree. It is taking a turn for the worse. Boxing looked awesome in the late 1970s. Minor league football will be CFB’s undoing. It’s on that path.
