You can still sell and transfer your tickets but what I see as the big problem is that cell service within a mile of the stadium goes to shit during home games. Maybe 5G will help a little if the carriers deploy some UWB at the stadium and gates. A paper transaction that would take thirty seconds could take ten or fifteen minutes now - and you can’t walk away until you’re sure the tickets transfer.

OH BOY......

Authorized ticket sellers
The only authorized sources for tickets to Penn State Athletics events are:

Please be aware that tickets purchased from other resale marketplaces (including StubHub, Vivid Seats, Craigslist, eBay, and ticket brokers) are not guaranteed as valid for entry into the venue.

What is mobile ticketing?
Mobile ticketing allows you to use your mobile device as your game ticket. Fans will gain admission into the venue via a unique QR code which will be scanned directly from your mobile device. For the easiest entry into the venue, fans should download the Penn State Athletics app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android.)

Why is Penn State Athletics transitioning to mobile ticketing?
Mobile ticketing increases the security of the ticket buying and event entry process. Mobile ticketing also provides:

  • Reduced risk of lost, stolen or counterfeit tickets
  • Quick and easy entry into the venue
  • The ability to manage, transfer or sell your tickets at any time directly from your mobile device

Can I have multiple tickets on the same mobile device?
Yes. You can view all of your tickets by swiping left or right on your smartphone. We highly encourage you to transfer a ticket to each member of your party to allow for the easiest entry and access throughout the venue.

What if my guest(s) and I are arriving to the venue at different times?
If arriving at different times, you will need to transfer a ticket to each member of your party. This will allow you and your guest(s) to arrive at the venue at your own convenience. Once the ticket transfer offer has been sent to your guest(s) they will receive an email instructing them to accept the tickets. If they do not already have a Penn State Athletics account, they can easily create an account to accept the ticket offer. Once your guest(s) have accepted the transfer offer, they should download the Penn State Athletics app to view their tickets.

What if I do not have a smartphone, or if my phone battery dies on game day?
You will need to visit the ticket office at the venue on game day. You will be required to show a valid photo ID for the name on the ticket account. CLICK HERE to view game day ticket office hours for each venue.

Do I need the Penn State Athletics app to manage and view my tickets?
While it is not required, we highly recommend downloading the app for the easiest and most convenient ticket management. Tickets purchased via Penn State Athletics can also be viewed by logging into www.gopsusports.com/accountmanager on a mobile device.

I purchased my ticket via ticketmaster.com – can I still view my ticket through the Penn State Athletics app?
Yes, tickets purchased via ticketmaster.com can be viewed in the Penn State Athletics app. However, you will not be able to manage your tickets. You will need to manage your tickets via the ticketmaster mobile app.

Depending on how many people don't have smart phones, the ticket office line could be a hassle.

Except when there is no cell service and not all already have the tickets loaded on their phone ready to go
There is wi-fi at the gates and I never had a problem with cell service. I am sure they will be including information on how to download them. Like I said many venues have done this. Are you suggesting that Penn State fans are dumber than the average fan at other venues?

I have nearly 40 years of printed Penn State home football tickets, plus perhaps 50 or so away game tickets. I remember how excited I was every year when I got the damn things. And I can still look at them and recall memories of a few hundred golden Saturdays.
Paper tickets. Treasures really. Ah, but now "Look for them only in private collections, for they are no more than a dream remembered, a tradition gone with the wind."

One issue is going to be when a family of five shows up and the ticket holder is going to have to swipe left five times. This electronic transaction will take at least 10x longer than handing the ticket agent 5 tickets.

Each one could have their ticket on their own phone.

Ok.....you are the cell user who has never had problems with WiFi at beaver stadium? I am so glad to meet you Mr. Unicorn.

It doesn’t take that long.

Seriously how long does it take you to swipe right? it is a fraction of a second. Countless venues have been doing this for years. Why do people act as if this has never been done and is going to be a major issue?

Please forgive my asking this very stupid question - but does this really mean no paper tickets at all, ever, even for season ticket holders? E-tickets via smart phone only?

Why? They scan just like paper tickets. The technology is simple and venues have been doing it for years.
You obviously have not lived through the mobile ticket nightmares of 2019. May work great at other places but caused many backups in 2019.

Yep. Better get to the gate 4 hours before the game to account for all the people that have never used a mobile ticket for anything before

Just take a picture of the QR code and keep it on your phone. If you don't have cell service you can still pull that pic up and get it scanned,.

This would require people to have 5G phones
Looks like about 12% of people have 5G capable phones, from a quick Google. I would have thought it would be in the low to mid 20% range at this point.

Even with such low penetration, it will still help LTE users as long as it’s a 5G Standalone network like T-Mobile is running - 5G users will free up LTE spectrum for older device

Although with a properly deployed 5G network, 5G users will have it pretty good.

I do agree with your unspoken point tho - it won’t completely solve the problem.

Some ticketing applications either prevent screenshots or have a dynamic code to prevent screenshots from working.

Penn State (wisely) did not enable those options in 2019 when electronic ticketing was initially offered. I don’t know if they will enable them for this year, however, and they might not want to publicly say if they will or not.

Doesn’t work...the codes are dynamic (at least the ones they use for students which went fully mobile a few years ago).

Nope, but the PSU admin is dumber than most admins. They will screw this up.

Something else to make it interesting, people tailgating all day, phone battery dies. Oops!

They’ve also had charging stations at gate A to cover that scenario.

Yes. Season ticket holders are actually the target of this policy. They want to do what ever they can to restrict your ability to resell your unused MAC/D1AA game tickets.

Sorry, but that freakin sucks.

Seems like the new motto for this degenerating Country should be "If something works, make sure you break it !!! "

We shall see. I hope your right but my bet is on the other side. When PSU went to using a third party for all pre-game management, the gate lines exploded and have not gotten better since that time because they have to train/retrain 80% of the workforce because they never done it before or there is new tech.

Need cell service to access the ticket. It will already be downloaded into the app and saved on your phone. Transferring Tickets may be difficult, but not accessing ones that are already on your phone

I do not have and do not want a smart phone. For wrestling in 2019, they used what was essentially a prepaid gift card. It was scanned at the door just like a paper ticket. I guess that was too efficient.

The issue is, it is already a clusterfuk to get in to Beaver Stadium .... and now there is a new reason to blame for it ... that is all
It will be a pain in the ass to get in with mobile tickets, but it already is a pain to get in with paper ticets

Are they dumber than the geniuses in Columbus who do it this way?
