Scarcella reports....

Maybe, a lot of us underestimated Johnson because he's a walk-on. Also, don't forget he had a major knee injury in 2016 and didn't play much last season. I know, it's early.
As for Menet, I never had any doubt he'd be a starter with the usual qualifier that he stays healthy.

Has anyone else here learned that starter in this program is almost meaningless with a few exceptions.... Barkely and McSorley last season.... I expect Menet to be a center ... long term .... Jan may start the game but the may get less snaps than 1 or 2 of his backups and maybe not. All I am saying is lots of players see lots of playing time in the way CJF and his staff use the chess board...... sometimes the back ups see more plays than the starters.... other times it is the opposite. It is a brilliant use and motivation of personnel.

agree, but Mike is not a position coaches like to rotate, since they usually call the defensive signals/alignment. I think Johnson is getting genuine first team reps, but look for Bowen to supplant him at some point.

Since we aren’t at practices, we don’t know what is going on at MLB. MLB is a critical position in the defense. A team can’t well afford to have somebody playing there who doesn’t have a really good grasp of the calls. We have had guys like Josh Hull and Brandon Smith show that walk - on players can most certainly be effective in this position.
Many would prefer the alternative of having less experienced LB’s at the other positions. Unless Bowen is moved to MLB, I expect we’ll see a lot of Johnson.

No argument that walk on players like Brandon Smith and Josh Hull can play significant roles at MLB. Did Brandon Smith play the the position exclusively when he played? He played great when he played and I hold him in the highest of esteem for his incredible contributions.... but did he share his position with others?

Jan J is a Governor Mifflin boy so you can be sure Scarcella is watching him like a hawk. Johnson can play - he's a D1 MLB body. I always thought he might have been a step slow to be a starter, but here he is. Whether he starts or not he's going to get lots of PT, and he's earned every snap.

No doubt. It is a tribute to CJF an Company everyone deserving gets recognition and playing time under the right circumstances. There is no place in team sports for elitism. The best combination of players for the circumstance needs to be on the field. This is great coaching.

Both Klaus, and the Rooster, approve of these developments. They used to hang out down at the Lido, but lately they spend their time here.

I know Brandon and Jason split time at MLB in 2016 in the Purdue game. I think Brandon played both WLB and MLB.

It's likely that Franklin wouldn't start Bowen game 1 no matter how well he was playing.

He isn't Brandon Smith. Take it from me. Expect less. Brandon's coverage skills and to a lesser degree, his ability to read, were uncommon. Nevertheless great honor for the kid, for as long as it lasts. He earned it.

Where in the world is Jake Cooper? At one time, he could play.

Is Jan Johnson Brandon Smith 2.0? I hope so because Smith was very good.

Why should we take it from you? Is your name Amos Alonzo Stagg?? BTW, ripping on Johnson while praising Cooper hurts your credibility. Cooper wasn’t good before getting hurt.

I feel pretty confident with my assesment. I'm also comfortable stating that Saquon Barkley was better than Miles Sanders is going to be. Is that ok with you all or does that also put your panties in a twist?

If making assessments or projections of football players based upon what you've seen of them playing football and making comparisons between players is too harsh for you, just put me on ignore.

FYI, you all are also entitled to opinions. Even about football players. I feel like having and expressing them is sort of a thing on internet forums.

You're making assessments on Johnson's ability and comparing him to others when you've not seen him play. None of us have. So that's why the whole "take it from me" schtick is just baloney.

I've seen him play. I also talk to some people. Assumptions are awesome. Always go with those. They'll serve you well.

So based on what I know on this subject, which is apparently more than you, I expect him to be a solid depth player, not a world beater. Somewhat of a lesser player than Smith, although still valuable. You can take that opinion or leave it. I really don't care.

Over and out.

No one has seen him play in a game in nearly 2 years. Because he hasn't played! And precious little even before that. His was the first name mentioned by the head coach yesterday when asked who was standing out at linebacker. Maybe you need some new sources. You simply are too full of yourself to humbly admit that you got way out over your skis and people called you out on it.
