I don't like when sportscasters say it is Mahames versus Lamar Jackson. football is the most team sport there is. Although, especially in the NFL, the QB is clearly the most important player.
And right now, PSU has the best quarterback of the final four.
I think the running games offset each other. I expect both teams to be able to move the ball on the ground. I think our RBs are better and the OL is a push but their QB can run better than ours. I think the difference is in the passing game. I like Allar better than I like Leonard. He started at Duke for two years (getting hurt halfway through last season) and started 13 games this year so he is very experienced. Against GA, he only had 90 yards passing and they won with only 244 total yards. So ND, disrespecting their second-team QB, was able to concentrate on shutting down GA's running game, and getting two turnovers helped.
So I am comfortable that, if PSU plays our A game, we will win. But ND is an experienced and savvy team. They are used to playing big-time games although this season's schedule was lacking. Lots of variables to consider: Carter's status, flu, adjustments to Thursday night game on national TV, navigation of the holidays, playing the 15/16th game of the season, and ND's delayed game previously....anything could happen.
I'll go with PSU 34 - ND 17.
