Sean Clifford leads the Big Ten in pass efficiency after two games...

Everybody is guilty of pumping up the mid majors. They all have the same criteria. Play 1-2 good teams a year, and feast on what every P5 team considers cupcakes. Every so often, you get a Boise or a UCF who breaks loose on the big stage.

Yes, but Cincinnati is not BSU or UCF, no matter how the BTN or their brethren at ESPN try to talk them up. They have not beaten a quality P5 opponent in years. The others have, in fact multiple ones.

Setting aside stats, I’ve just liked the way he’s looked so far. Pretty accurate on a variety of throws. Needs to keep it less on running plays.

I will never understand someone's motivation to spend so much time focusing on something that obviously brings them no joy. Really, if they weren't so annoying, I'd feel sorry for them. Because their lives must suck!

That's exactly why Pitt doesn't have many fans, and the fans they do have are delusional douchebags.

It isn't BTN hype. ESPN also considered them top 3 with Boise State and UCF. I couldn't be happier with Clifford. Honestly. But our schedule isn't comparable to Ohio State. We played an FCS team. There isn't even a debate.
This. I think Clifford is going to be an all time PSU great. But clowns here that Are all into making stat proclamations and relative comparisons after beating Idaho are just nuts.

Well it's a damn good thing literally NOBODY has suggested the Heisman for Clifford.

Good Lord.

I haven't been on this board very long. Lifelong Penn State fan, but only recently got back onto the message board thing. What a tragic mistake that was, but too late now.

But......when I first started reading this site about a year or so ago, what really shocked me was how quickly virtually anything positive was doused with cold water. And it got me thinking. Who needs Penn State haters @ Pitt or Rutgers or Maryland when you have so many of our own ready to toss a piss-filled balloon on anything resembling a homer comment?

It's a PENN STATE board. How the hell does a mere statement of fact re: Clifford's passing efficiency generate this kind of breathless response to educate the unwashed masses?
Ok why aren’t you also mentioning that Devyn Ford also leads the b1g in yards per carry after the Idaho game? It’s silly and frankly exhibits a relatively low IQ

You didn’t like the 9 yard out route play call on 3rd and 12 on our first drive?

I don't think Rahne is very good at being an OC and I'll be surprised if he changes my mind this year. I really hope JF is ready to do something about it if it turns out Rahne is a flop as OC. I know they are incredibly close friends.

Wait.....what?

I'm not arguing that a hell of a lot can be drawn from our first two games. But do you think those two sample sizes are even remotely similar? Clifford has played 6 full quarters and has 45 passing attempts. Devyn Ford has 6 carries.

Secondly, Clifford is being compared to other Big Ten QBs. You may want to gander at the competition they've faced.

This statistic can only be seen as a positive at this point. Doesn't mean it's terribly predictive, but it's positive nonetheless. Would you rather Clifford be #7 in pass efficiency?

Amazing how this becomes something to gripe about.

You are the one who is debating SOS. The post was on the fact that Clifford has the best QBR in the B10 right now. That is a fact. You can spin it however you want. Another fact, Buffalo beat Temple last year, something Cincinnati couldn't do.

The comment I responded to was about SOS. I didn't reply to the initial comment.

None of any teams with a pulse have played an opponent worse than Idaho. It’s not a reflection of Sean, it’s a reflection on the garbage OOC scheduling we have.

Let me guess, we need a "signature win", right?
Can't wait til, 2020. That will surely be our year.

Uhh, you realize his rating against Buffalo was significantly better than his rating against Idaho, right?

To say that his rating "isn't a reflection on Sean" is perhaps a new "Trace plays better than what he really is" comment. It's completely illogical.

His rating is, in essence, both a result of HIM and his defensive opponents.

Fun fact: Clifford's rating against Buffalo was better than Jackson's rating against Howard (a weaker opponent than Buffalo), Patterson's rating against MTSU (a weaker opponent than Buffalo), Fields' rating against FAU (a weaker opponent than Buffalo), Nate Stanley's rating against Miami OH (a weaker opponent than Buffalo), or Lewerke's rating against WMU (a weaker opponent than Buffalo).

In fact, his rating against Buffalo might have been the single most efficient game played by a Big Ten QB this year.......and most certainly it wasn't against the worst competition.

Nobody here is making more of it than what it is. But your attempt to make the performance irrelevant is completely absurd and illogical.

This chucklehead seems like one of those guys who will just keep moving the goalposts in any argument. It will drive you crazy. Don't waste anymore time on him.

Haven’t moved a single goal post champ. I simply said it’s worthless to compare stats when our two opponents were Idaho and buffalo. You seem very incapable of basic analyses

Winbush already replaced at UCF?

Looks like it! From UCFknights.com, notes from last weekend/going into this weekend:

"UCFAST NOTE
gabriel gets the nod
• True freshman Dillon Gabriel had success off the bench in the week one win over FAMU and then led the Knights to victory on the road in his first career start in week two against FAU.
• Gabriel has completed 16-of-32 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing for another in his first two collegiate games.
• The Hawaiian ranks seventh in the nation with a 199.2 passing efficiency rating, 25th with his five touchdown passes, and leads the nation with 23.25 yards per completion. His 11.63 yards per pass attempt also rank fourth in the nation.
• Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush saw success in game one, while redshirt freshman Quadry Jones has still yet to throw an incompletion in four career attempts."
