All in all I thought they played a solid game. Fields wasn't able to find guys open several times and had to run or eat the ball. Even the catches that were made were contested. O$U had 188 yards passing. Considering the past few games, I'd say they stepped up and did a decent job of keeping us in the game. Not perfect but improved.

I would agree - the defense did not lose the game for us. I few issues containing Fields and I would have thought maybe they would spy him with Micah and maybe they did but not sure. Never got KJ much involved and we continue to drop too many passes.

DBs never raise their arms as the ball is arriving...or turning... or both ...a face guarding penalty ( if called) is a first down versus giving up the touchdown.

there is no call of face guarding in college football. BTW we tried that tactic vs USC in the Rose Bowl, and how did that work out?

I agree that the secondary -- especially Wade -- played better yesterday. I also think that the Ohio State receivers are much better than our receivers in that any time the ball was in their vicinity, they made the catch. No drops. A play that really hurt was when Brown dropped the pass on about the 3 yard line early in the fourth quarter. If he makes the catch he likely scores and the game is tied. No telling what would have happened after that.

Only got to watch the first half because of work, thus I missed the second half come back.

If Fields only had 188, on paper that looks impressive. However, look at the number of short fields fields they had. I remember several passes being completed that our soft man allowed in the first half alone.

While not a D or F grade (considering the Minnesota and Indiana games), a low B or high C was probably the ceiling. We didn't let then kill us, but we never stopped them either.

I only saw that play once and was at a party and couldn't hear-was it deflected it at all? Was it a tough catch or should it have been caught?

Then why not get your hands up in the end zone when you are beat and the ball is eminent? One time, our guy waited until the buckeye caught the ball (at that point a TD) and then tackled him at the waist in the middle of the end-zone. Everything is wrong there.

It's actually a miracle that they only scored 28 while playing on a short field. Gillikin did the defense no favors yesterday with his punting.

Lamont Wade was immensely instrumental in that comeback. I was really psyched to see him play such a good game against the evil $ empire. Let’s build on that! Great leadership showing the younger fellas how to ignore hype, show up, and bloody the bully’s face in his own front yard.

Wade played better in run support. Not convinced his ability to cover receivers downfield has improved. Got toasted badly on a TD throw. On the gw tuchdown by OSU....Reid gives a 6 yd cushion and STILL gets beat deep. at the end of the half, #19 also gave a huge cushion, then bites on an out route and should have been beat for a td. In that situation at the end of the half, his only job was to not get beat deep. As far as dropped balls...jeez! I have never seen a team drop more. You are dead on about JB's drop. All the mo in the world is on PSU's side if he catches that ball.

In all honesty I thought the team played much better than what I thought going into the game. But, because of their play we now get into the "what If's". Wouldn't been just better to get torched. It kind of reminds me of the mind set of golf, you suck most of the day and then you put a couple good holes together and then you start the, "only if I would have took a drop" or "I wish I would have took my time and didn't shank three of the tee" or took a snowman on two par three's." Wouldn't it have been better just to suck all day? We seem to go through this emotional roller coaster every year. I hope there will be a time when we don't need to point to a loss that we should have won or a play that if made would won us the ball game. Man is it tough being a fan!

I watched it a few times on my recording. It was right in his hands and he looked away before he caught it. It would very likely have been a TD. Penn State needs to have a consult from Bobby Engram on how to consistently catch a football.

Why was Reid looking in the backfield on olive td was 2 yards off him, had to catch up- terrible coverage. Wade got torched as well on the td he gave up.

i agree - some of the tOSU possessions were short field due to poor punting and the fact the offense could not move the ball. while not perfect the D played about as good as expected. the largest breakdown was the Fields 3rd and long scrambles that got FDs. a few too many of those. I was surprised he didn't get 100 yds rushing.

Reid was never the same after coming back from his injury. He gave up at least 2 huge plays in Minny and the 1 TD with OSU.
