...they were repulsed by the notion that we had a thread view option.

Now, all kinds of new names have popped up telling us how glorious the change is.

Kind of a head scratcher, imho.

You and a couple others keep saying this....

I don't know where it comes from. There are no new names that have cropped up--I recognize most every one. More likely, I think you're just able to see all posts, and hence all posters now.

That is an improvement: You did not call me a name this time. I will pass on this turn as well.

Well I agree I am seeing some names I never/seldom saw before, but those are people who have, according to the identifiers under their names, been on the site for a while, and have few posts. I am guessing to some extent they are people who almost solely use cell phones to access the site, and I am told this is a much easier way to do it. When widespread telephone service came to the homes of illiterate people, is it hard to imagine they stayed in better touch with their families far away than when impossible letter writing was the only means of communication?

The second point I have to make is that I seldom find the courage to bitch about the quality ofsomething I get for free. Just sayin'.

The reason why this was done was solely because of mobile devices (phones, tablets, netbooks, etc).

Web traffic is increasingly coming from mobile devices. For example, mobile hits at my work's website is now nearly 40%.....and that's a 50+% increase from the same time last year.

This board's prime demographic (45-65 year old males) didn't grow up with technology--they've adopted it, and are increasingly going to mobile. Those of us in their 20s/30s grew up with technology, and use mobile a heck of a lot more than those who are older. Even younger people exclusively use mobile, and don't use desktop at all.

Anecdotally, I think most of us are sitting at a desk, reading/posting while at work on a desktop or large-screened laptop. But, even that is shifting with time. All websites were designed to be desktop-first, and worked/looked like crap on mobile. Now that the target demographic of this site is increasingly going to mobile, and younger users are almost exclusively going toward mobile.......we've seen a shift to a design that works better on mobile.

There are very, very few people who I haven't seen before posting on this board in the past 48 hours. In fact, I think the names I haven't recognized are ones bitching about the change. But, the change is here, it's staying/not going away.........just like very other site across the internet. You don't have to like it......but suck it up and deal with it.

See all the Posts??????
Are you serious?
Now you don't see any of the posts......

I haven't seen that many new users at all. Mostly the same names for me.
In the end, you are going to see a handful of new folks. A handful of old school guys will bail. The hardcore long time folks will mostly adapt because we've been here too long to quit.

That's right, you're stuck with us McAndrew!

Perhaps I'm the odd one, but I don't find this format friendly at all on my iPhone 6. I check in 3 or 4 times a day via my phone, and perhaps once on my laptop (like now), and with my phone it takes forever to click on a threads and scroll through responses. I prefer to the topic view for the mobile usage because it's just quicker. I'm already losing interest as a mobile user in this format which means my subscription to the Den will end.

If you click on the blue dot to the left of the topic title your browser (presumably safari) will automatically jump to the first unread post. I'm finding this new format infinitely more usable on mobile devices.

First, I think a lot of us not appreciating the new format DON'T access the site on our phones.. we do it during private time, away from work. So for us, it isn't an improvement at all.

As to the names complaining... are you kidding? Most everyone complaining has been affiliated with McAndrew's list/boards since the 90's.. not since 2005.

Are we going to adapt? Too some degree. I still want my information and 'll get it as best I can here. But the fun factor is gone.
