Shad Benton's new job.....

Oh, man, I would love a report! National Wrestling Twitter is definitely paying attention. Are you on twitter? Would you be willing to take some pics or very short vids? Especially capturing Benton/McCort reacting to Westmont/Beaujon's choices on who to send out.

If you do go, and would be willing to grab a couple of those in pic or vid and are not on twitter yourself, could you email some to me so I can share? jtothemfp at gmail if you're able, willing. No worries if not.
.

Well.... quick update. The match has now been postponed until tomorrow night.

Young Guns has sent more wrestlers to Charlottesville than to Iowa City, including Lee and Teasdale.
Charlottesville? CP must be recruiting for them. We need to recall Smalls from the rodeo circuit. He needs to pick up his game or no more envelopes from the NLWC for Willie. ;)

Random thoughts:

Wrong to FF to girls.
Wrong to use girls as pawns.
B-shit on the weather cancellation...they cancelled to stop any more news.
I'm guessing the WH coach gets some flak from his AD/Supernintendo over it.
Kind of surprised nobody here in D11 didn't try this with BECA already.
PIAA should have already sanctioned girls wrestling like a decade ago.
Private/religious schools should NOT be in the same league/district/playoffs as public schools.
You want to go after a private for non-league, have at it...but not league and not when district boundaries don't matter.

End rant.

Also total BS to have a loss go on the kid's record for a school admin decision. Small matter if this is a one-off, unless it impacts seeding for sectionals/districts/regionals.

Maybe cuz ya didn't land us Spencer and Teasdale.
Yeah, we had to settle for Suriano and RBY. Oh wait...

Remember when a team forfeited to BECA at states to protest BECA being allowed to wrestle AA? It wasn't a popular move at the time but it worked. Sometimes you have to go nuclear.

If Beaujon is fighting for the rights of girls to wrestle, I applaud the move. If, on the other hand, this is a petty maneuver to zing the school that took most of his best wrestlers, well that's just a total D move.

If by "worked" you mean "got the team banned from the postseason, got the coach fired, and changed nothing about Beca," then, yes, it worked brilliantly.

The coach was Omar Porrata of Palisades. He forfeited all fourteen weights to BECA in the quarterfinal of the 2014 D11 AA Team Tournament. Porrata lost his coaching job at Palisades but resurfaced at Liberty the following school year as an assistant. Palisades was not banned from the postseason, only Porrata, a sanction later dropped by the PIAA to settle the defamation lawsuit brought by Porrata. Bethlem Catholic was bumped to AAA the following season where they lost to eventual champion Franklim Regional in the semifinals, 30-26.

Shad Benton always knew that he wanted to return to the wrestling mat as a coach.

greatly appreciate the post of the article.

kind of baffled about the discussion of females on the Westmont Hilltop team. That does not appear to be in the article posted. can anyone clarify?

This should help make sense of it, Tom:

High-profile McCort, Westmont wrestling match postponed by inclement weather
The hotly anticipated wrestling match between Westmont Hilltop and Bishop McCort will have to wait for another night.

Bishop McCort announced shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday that the match has been postponed due to inclement weather.

The match was gaining attention across the state and nation because Westmont Hilltop had 12 girls on its roster – presumably to force Bishop McCort wrestlers to forfeit matches.

Under a policy adopted by Pennsylvania's Roman Catholic bishops, wrestlers at Catholic schools are not permitted to compete against girls. If an opponent sends out a female foe, the Catholic school would be forced to forfeit the weight.

Debate has raged on social media sites about whether such a tactic was poor sportsmanship and an example of a win-at-all-costs mentality or if by doing so, Westmont Hilltop would be taking a stand for public school supporters who believe that private schools have unfair advantages in athletics because of an ability to attract students from outside a specific geographic area.

No makeup date has been announced for the meet, which would have been the first home wrestling match for the new Bishop McCort program.

Weather also played a part in the postponement of the Johnstown-Forest Hills wrestling match.

BECA was not bumped up to AAA by the PIAA, they elected to move up in the new two year cycle and the decision had nothing to do with Porrata's actions.

No impact whatsoever? Not having it. The timing is too coincidental for me. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Dice.

Only posting this for those who may be interested. It was just reported on the local news here that Bishop McCorts sports programs were placed on a 1 year probabtion for some sort of recruiting violation. The violation stems from a rules violation by someone in the wrestling program. The wrestling team will serve an additional year of probation.
