SIAP: Barbour wins AD of the year

FYI, Barbour winning this award was announced quite some time ago. It's only coming up again now because I think the awards ceremony is this week. We've known for months that she won this and there are prior threads about this.

I understand that a black-tie gala event is being organized at the Nittany Lion Inn to honor sandy. It is expected that the event will cost around $3 million.

And is the AAD of black tie events organizing it?? or will all 50+ AAD's be presenting their ideas to Tsunami in hopes of winning the rights to run the event and possibly win bootlicker of the year --which will be announced at the official awards dinner along side Tsunami?

If she could stay off of twitter and/or not promote other schools to newspapers she would be a shoe-in every year.

Not really. First of all, the lobbying that goes into this award is greater than that of the Heisman or the Oscars. If I had my druthers, she could eat shoe leather as often as she likes if she had tangible accomplishments to show.

My post was TIC...but point taken.

If you listen to some people, she is burning everything down. And if you think fundraising post Sandusky/not honoring Joe is easy, I have a bridge to sell you. Good price.

Any idea how well fundraising is going? I've not seen any numbers.

I very much doubt that's remotely true.

My bad and certainly no offense was meant. I'd be thrilled if she won the award based on accomplishments, despite the ticky tack way in which it's given. When an award is handed out to four people you can guess what's going on.

Joyner deserves some acknowledgement as well IMHO for some really important hires. Another one who doesn't seem to have a lot of friends, but the results speak for themselves. Most ADs go their whole career without making a hire as good as O'Brien or Franklin. Joyner did it twice inside of, what, three years?

Think these awards are similar to the Nobels (how is that for a laugh?) in that, when conferred, one must be employed as an AD to win one.

Regardless, the only thing Joyner deserves is is a 23-EEEE up his ass.

First, she was not named The Athletic Director of the Year, but one of four chosen in FBS (joining Boo Coorigan of Army, Jay Jacobs of Auburn, and Blake James of Miami). There are 7 Divisions, so 28 total "Athletic Directors of the Year" each year.
Second, looking at the criteria for section, and the past winners (of which there are hundreds), she is as worthy as any.

What ever she has done a good job. The teams have done well. The athletes have done well.
Now if the posters could only do as well.
We are not a positive bunch.
We birch more than praise. We denigrate rather than encourage.
She came on board at a difficult time when no Penn Stater need apply.
I think we lucked out we could have done a lot worse. Look at our friends at Pitt.

This. People should try to help the University instead of taking shots at it. We have one of the best athletic departments in the country... there is no need to bitch about it so much.

Gimme a sis! Gimme a boom! Gimme bah!

I don't know, other than anecdotal stories that certain checkbooks are closed until Joe is honored in a manner said donor(s) feel is appropriate.

So Sandusky is actually irrelevant then, just the way the university trashed a good man.

I call BS. How can you question the paradigm shifting GAP enlightening principal of counting loans as revenue?

He probably saw the news and had a coronary.
Maybe he'll come around and give her the benefit of the doubt. I detect that Barry is mellowing a little bit.

She came on board after being fired at Cal. She's the lucky one - not us.
