I would bet he's not our DC next season. I'd love to see it but he'll be looked at for a head coaching position for many high-end programs.

My insider information (I have none of course) leads me to believe that he’s here for another year. Seider, the running back coach and ace recruiter I believe is due to take the leap after this season (once again based on my nonexistent close proximity to the assistant coaches mindsets). Hell the way money is being thrown around pre pretty much guaranteed failure maybe they all bolt for the green.

Not sure why you think that. Manny had his shot at being a HC, and it didn't go well. There are guys who are good coordinators, but not good HC's. Examples this season include Venables who's off to a rough start at Oklahoma, and our own Brent Pry who was 2-8 before Sat when the Hokies pulled out a late win vs Liberty. Manny would be a potential job-killing gamble for a P5 AD.

He'd have to be offered a pretty good job and i don't see one year changing his reputation back to a guy teams are going to be fighting over. Maybe 2024 but seems unlikely this offseason unless he's willing to take any HC position

The only thing I've heard that would make me think it's possible he leaves this off season is "where is his family?" I don't know; the person who brought it up didn't either.

If in Florida, USF might be minorly tempting just to get back in Florida, but is no more than a springboard job and not exactly an easy place to win. (Ucf has been better for comparison)

I think the Pry's and Venables' cool ADs from defensive coordinators for a year. At least in P5 jobs.

But what do I know? Absolutely nothing and there is liable to be an announcement tomorrow that "school xxa hires Diaz to be next HC" my luck.

Manny IMO, is not interested in a MAC or any G5 HC job. The debacle in Miami is evidence that he did a pretty good job holding things together there. He's smart enough to know that his next P5 HC opportunity may be his last. I think he'll be back and look carefully before he jumps into the deep end of the pool again.

He was a huge name before Miami. He was a HC at a (semi maybe) Blue-blood program (Miami). I don’t think he is leaving until he gets back into the conversation for a top 20 program HC position.

The issue is offense is selling these HC jobs now.

I hope that we pay him enough that he won’t consider a lateral move.

If he moves on as a head coach, you can’t blame him.

i would hope that Franklin got a commitment from Diaz that he would stay for at least 2, maybe 3, years. Having a DC in for only a year, and knowing that up front, would be kind of destabilizing.
Look at our Defense this year..took a few games for everyone to get on the same page. Can't go through this every year.

If Scot Frost is a candidate for USF, then Diaz has to be in the mix

If Frost were to return to the state of Florida and coach USF, it lends to the question: "why didn't he stay at UCF and build them further?"

Sure, returning to your Alma mater is tempting, but certainly he seen what had went on there in the 20 years since he graduated. Tom retiree. Solich wins 10 games regularly, gets fired. Bo P wins 9 games regularly, gets fired. Move to the Big 10 and Texas recruiting all but dries up. National recruits get hard to get without an offensive identity and the programs descent.

He could have stayed at UCF and continued to build them up. They are in the Big 12 starting next season.

This leads me to Diaz after the Nebraska extended detour: what does he want? He's done coached his home town school. He came up under Mickey Andrews, who spent 26 years as a DC. What's his next goal?

Manny and all the assistants are staying at least through 2023. They have something great going on and next year or 2024 would be the time to cash in. They are ascending now. Top value would be after 2023/2024!

I don't think that is how CJF rolls.

The coaching carousel hasn't even started. But right now, you still have positions that will pay $6m plus open (Nebraska and Auburn). Still possible Harbaugh goes to the NFL and I can see others going as well. I know things didn't go great in Miami but lots of coaches had tough stops before seeing success at another program.

Dude looks like a model so he will represent really well, runs a solid program and, oh yeah, his defenses rock when he has the right players.

It's wikipedia, so it has to be taken with a grain of salt, but... "Diaz and his wife, Stephanie, live in State College, PA with their three sons, Colin, Gavin and Manny."

I think Manny sticks around for a bit. He’s going to want to set himself up for another P5 job and needs another year or two to prove he learned and will be better in take 2.

The man just got here. Good lord what is with this fascination about every single positive person has to immediately leave. Wait here comes Deion Barnes and our Mike linebacker from last year! Hold on...what? Larry Johnson Sr is on line 1 AGAIN!

He'll be a head coach soon, but why not stay another year at PSU with a chance at a really special season next year. The head coaching jobs he'll be offered will be stronger if he stays another year. Or maybe stay 3-4-5 years and have the stability without the craziness of a head coach job while he and his wife have kids at home? Money is not a problem for them I'm sure, and again, Diaz has plenty of years to be a head coach -- the next job needs to be a job where he can be successful.

I am going to guess at least 1 more year and quite possibly 2 or more years. Of course he can go the route of a G5 program or a lower rung P5 program. However, I think the movement at the moment is making sure you get yourself an offensive guy. They sell tickets, they make people excited. Before someone yells about some defensive coaches having good records, you are right.....but the trend is offensive IMO.
