So it's bowl week. How about some meaningful discussion on the game

The last I saw we are a 6 point dog. Georgia is without their HC, OC, DC, and LB coach. They've also lost at least one of their starting LB's. How can we not be favored?

We will also be running an offense minus our OC (like most I'm thrilled about this). How is that going to impact our offense?

What do you see as key matchups?

Does anyone know what tickets sales look like? Every bowl I've watched this far has been poorly attended. I realize attendance should pick up as we get farther into this bowl season. Will we continue to travel well as a fan base?

Who can focus on such things when one of sports legendary streaks, 150 consecutive championships, is on the line today in Ocean City, MD. OC is being over-run and stampeded....it's all anyone wants to talk about.

Anyone know what the starting O-line will be? Will there be anyone out injured? It seems that we will have everyone one back who was out last game. Can Lucas play or was that a season ending injury?

This is the classic "depends on which team is more motivated" game. A month off and lots of off the field movement on staffs makes this a hard to predict game from an intangibles standpoint who will be more into the game and ready to go.

Looking strictly at the matches on the field, PSU should be an underdog...and 6 points may be generous. Georgia's defense is great (although they're missing a top LB), particularly against the pass so if we can't run the ball we're in deep trouble.

On the other side of the ball, there's not much to be scared of from Georgia's offense unless our D is on the field the whole game and wears down in the 2nd half.

I could see this being a lot like the Northwestern game in terms of matchups position for position.

Bowl attendance has been a hot topic but it shouldn't be a problem with this game. I'm sure we'll be well represented but Jacksonville is in UGA's backyard. It'll be a very pro-Dawg crowd so I'm sure our guys are preparing for crowd noise like they would for an away game.

No idea on exactly how many tickets have been sold by either side, but if you look at the Ticketmaster site, looks like the lower bowl is pretty well sold out on both sides of the field. The upper deck has a lot of tickets on both sides, however, PSU seems to have fewer tickets available in the upper decks than Georgia does. Overall, if fans bought tickets on their respective side, I'd say it looks like PSU has sold a few more than Georgia.

Are you attempting to let facts get in the way of ASWP rhetoric? Good grief, what's the world coming to when absurd ASWP rhetoric doesn't hold sway over reality and facts?

If Nassib is good to go, we should be better than we were in the last three games of the season.

Without getting into the details....PSU isn't really lined up well to take on a team with as much quality, maturity, and depth of talent as UGA.

Could PSU win? Sure they could.

Bowl games are funny animals, and much of the outcome is often decided by which squad is more "into" the game....."into" the game to the degree that it provokes them to prepare well and have an intense mindset coming into the game.

I am not sure if either team will be really focused, but the degree to which PSU IS focused could play a large role.

Agree with that, the only way a "gameplan" is effective on either side of the ball is if the players embrace it, study it, understand it and make it their own (e.g., "buy into it"). Bowl games are very different from regular season games in this way as there is not time in the way of learning a customized gameplan to do the kind of customization you can do for a bowl game. But like you said, the gameplans, regardless of how good, will only be as good as the players dedicate themselves to understand them, work at them in practice, etc.... If one team is extremely "focused" and dedicated to the "gameplan" for the bowl and the other team is just "going through the motions", it can make a massive difference on the field.

Didn't UGA lose their RB coach as well? This is really an important game for Franklin - he really needs to win it. You don't want the program to finish out the season with 4 straight losses and you want to some improvement on the overall won/loss record from last year. I don't think it's a good sign for Franklin's future if he loses a game to an average UGA team with basically no coaching staff.

All I need to know about this game is that Penn State is a member of the all powerful BigTen Conference and Georgia is not.;)

I worry about our punting in these defensive games. Hopefully we can run the ball a little and stay out of bad field position, but I fear this will be Hackenberg's statement game, and our offense will be pass heavy, in which case it's on his shoulders, win or lose. Hopefully he will be sharp, and we can spread the field vertically a lot more then was often the csse with Donovan's bubble screen offense. A healthy offensive line, and a full speed Barkely will obviously help, but it all comes down to preventing the sacks, and giving Hack some time.

Other than a chance for the kids to get some additional practice time I really do not care about the game. Although I hope that play well and have a good time.
As for the OL ?? Anyone? Anyone?

Average UGa team? Georgia went 9-3, how precisely is that "average"? BTW, Miami seemed to play fine after firing Golden. So you're saying that UGa should forfeit this game and it is irresponsible for their University's leadership to put the team on the field under these conditions?

It is also my understanding that the acting HC, McLendon (Sp) has already accepted a job at South Carolina but is staying to coach the bowl game.

Agree with another poster who stated that who showed up with some emotion would probably win.

Hard to think that the GA players do not feel deserted. If we can withstand an early surge of emotion on their side, I think we can hang in an win this game.

For those obsessed with Pitt, game is in Annapolis MD not OC.
Why would we care?

Hey look everybody, another moronic ASWPer has showed up on the PSU board to play. Who knew the game being discussed in this thread (PSU - UGa) was being played in Annapolis, MD - I thought it was being played in Jacksonville, FL??? I know for sure it isn't being played in OC because that's where they're playing the "War At The Shore" game with national title implications and that great storyline regarding one of sports all-time winning streaks - the sports world is simply buzzing as to whether they can make it 150 in a row!

They are pretty even other than UGA pulling out 2 more wins and being in the vaunted SEC. PSU had only one win over a team with an above .500 record. According to Sagarins, UGA will win by a td. Similar to the vegas spreads.

This one will come down to who wants it more and how much the coaches prepare. Franklin really needs this victory in my opinion to move to the next level. And recruiting will go along with it especially since he is battling with players looking at both schools.

I don't have any confidence given PSU Oline, Hack not wanting to get hurt and potentially not wanting to be there at all, and in game coaching. But fired up to watch the game and glad it is on a weekend at a decent time.

24 Georgia A = 82.24 9 3 0 70.52( 61) 0 1 0 | 0 3 0 | 79.93 30 | 82.44 23 | 83.87
48 Penn State A = 75.41 7 5 0 71.72( 51) 0 2 0 | 0 3 0 | 74.45 52 | 75.77 47 | 76.03 46

A thread about our bowl game and some here still have a hardon for Pitt.

It's been Pitt week at BWI. I guess that's better than the usual.

Next up: Another Bushwood rant. Thankfully we only have a few more days of him until the asylum short bus picks him up to take him back home.

Pretty sure if #19 for PSU can run a streak down the sideline, #14 for PSU can get it past the Georgia DB, and PSU could score on that play.

It's been known to happen.

So you feel Hackenberg should go for the bundle?

And if we could just stop that pesky running back named "Walker", we should be OK.

I believe Georgia's coaches (who ever they are) will blitz the hell out of us. They have nothing to lose and are wanting to make a statement for their next employer.

IMO, they will look at Maryland's cover zero game plan and do it with better players and athletes
