Sorry if I missed this, but was Menet hurt? The reason...

I ask is that on the pregame radio show, the way Steve Jones was talking, he almost made it sound like it was a performance issue and not an injury. Either way, I really liked the lineup of McGovern at center and Miranda at guard.

McGovern played center last year and probably called all the line assignments so it was a mystery to me why he was switched to guard and Menet put in the center spot. One would think an experienced center is key in OL blocking schemes.

Curious, I don’t follow recruiting THAT closely, but wasn’t McGovern considered one of the very top centers coming out of high school?

Yes, & Menet a top guard. That's not meant to be a critique of the coaching staff, but those were the projected positions respectively

but after the spring, they decided to move Menet to c and Mc Govern to OG. Menet wasn't strong enough to play OG in the B1G this year.

We were noticeably better at Center and Guard. Hate to say it, but I think Menet has not been very good this year.
Just my opinion, but I thought Menet played fairly well, improved as the season went on. I realize hiking the ball is just a part of his job, but he was very solid on that. Good to see that Miranda can play well.

It will be interesting to see how the OL shakes out next year; should be very competitive for playing time.

The combo of McG at C and Miranda at RG looked much more effective overall, especially running the football, than McG at RG and Menet at C. And MD's DL are no slouches either; overall a very impressive performance.

There was a 3rd down where Miranda pulled left on a QB draw and he met the defender perfect. Entire line got a hat on a hat, pushed back. Thing of beauty.

Byron Cowart is a former #1 overall recruit.
Yeah, thanks for pointing that out...hadn't recalled some on the info on his recruitment and subsequent journey

Cowart was a five-star prospect, but hasn’t panned out yet.
To call Cowart a blue-chip recruit sells him short. He was the No. 3 overall player in the Class of 2015, according to the 247Sports Composite. ESPN and Rivals had him at No. 1, and all four major recruiting sites (Scout and 247 being the others) had him as the nation’s top strong-side defensive end. He committed to Auburn on National Signing Day, choosing the Tigers over Florida, where DJ Durkin had been the defensive coordinator until January.

And then he just never got going. Cowart saw time in every game as a freshman, making six tackles. He played in 10 contests in 2016, recording six more tackles. While others in his recruiting class were blossoming, he was stuck in neutral. Cowart left Auburn three games into the 2017 season, explaining that he wanted to be closer to his ailing mother back home. He enrolled at Hillsborough Community College, but didn’t suit up for the rest of the year.

Maryland added him in December as a junior college recruit.
There wasn’t much interest in Cowart the second time around; Maryland was one of the few schools ever connected to him. Cowart had visited College Park as a recruit, and Durkin had been involved in recruiting him while at Florida. The commitment came on the early signing day in December.
