South Carolina Illinois getting extra chippy

I hate Brett B but this whole substitution thing is not his fault. South Carolina is not subbing until late and he’s just doing what he should be doing and running his subs out there as slow as possible. South Carolina is intentionally putting them out late to try and force Illinois hand so they get what they deserve.
Agree

In the past, yes....with this playoff setup they won't. Comes down to Texas Georgia Penn State Oregon and Ohio State...I like the Big Ten's chances. I like our chances. Win tonight then let's go

The SEC claims everything. They wanted Bama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina in the playoff. Had all these teams won their bowls, they most definitely would have talked it up.

I agree they would have talked it up and I'd have said that's ridiculous
I also believe now they'll say those games meant nothing

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't matter if you, I or the devil thinks it's legit; they market better than anybody.

South Carolina wanted this game. They've been at the forefront of the "I've renegotiated and returning" posts by their QB and DE. Saying this game meant nothing is equally ridiculous. Why didn't you say that?

Don’t like Bert much but he’s having a blast out there trolling the shit out of Beamer.

That is clear Taunting and just disgusting how these loser Officials regularly call Taunting on players, but don't call it on the freaking Coach who's supposed to be setting an example for these Young Men. Bilema is a complete douche as usual - quite the "Role Model" for the Illinois Program.

Weren't those posts about returning next year not for this game?
And yes it's absolutely as ridiculous if they wanted this game badly. Maybe more ridiculous

But it's a bowl game...basically no one cares

Ohio State over Tennessee matters
Hopefully Penn State over Georgia and Oregon/Ohio State over Texas matters (or we can beat both)

But USCe and Bama losing a scrimmage is a non story
No one’s listening to you, Junior. All these teams are fighting like hell to win. The players are literally fighting. The coaches are fighting. The winners are celebrating. The losers are pissed. We don’t need your stupid-ass to gaslight us. We can see for ourselves what the truth is. Go back to your fake Christmas party.

Absolutely disagree - Illinois was taking inordinate amounts of time to substitute including walking one defensive substitute at a time onto the field! (And players going off the field walking slowly off). The rule is utterly ridiculous as currently structured with no time limit on defense to make substitutions - just stupid. The defense should get AT MOST 10 seconds (one-quarter of the play clock) to make its substitutions after the Offense makes its last substitution (i.e., 10 seconds would restart if Offense makes a new substitution). But after the 10 seconds expires, the Ref should clear the Center to snap it - if the defense doesn't clear too many men on the field before the ultimate snap, they should be penalized as 10 seconds is plenty of time to run on and off the field.

Strangely enough it seems like the players and coaches want to win these games. 🤪
Coaches get paid to coach
Players get paid to play (unless the opt out)
Doesn't alter the meaning of the games in the grand scheme
Hell, I want to beat my wife and kids are everything--that's what competitors do--doesn't give something meaning

I don't remember which game, but I took note that the defense tried to pull the slow walk and the ref looked at him walking off and signaled ready to play. The guy had to sprint off and barely made it.

Moving the goalposts again, Lando. Man your shoulders have GOT to be tired.

Yes, referees have some ability to "manage" the slow walk of defensive substitutions. I am fairly certain I watched a game a few weeks ago where a flag was thrown for delay of game on the defense for taking too long. I think there was some audio captured from the ref that basically said "you took too long".

They should codify how long the defense has to make substitution starting when the offense runs new players on the field (and replaced players begin moving off the field. 10 seconds is more than enough time for defense too see what substitutes are coming on... and make their adjustments, including replaced players getting off the field. If the Offense initiates new substitutions, 10 sec clock restarts. Easy for Referee to keep a count and he can demonstrate he's started his count by swiping his arm.

Bielema had defensive replacements walking on field slowly.... and one at a time. Had the replacements walking slowly off the field one at a time. He then went and started taunting USCe team and coach by imitating the Center Judges Signal to hold the snap when standing behind Center on substitutions (i.e., holding both arms outstretched to side) while laughing. It was a ridiculous display by a Head Coach, especially a HC who was intentionally abusing the rule in a highly Unsportsmanlike way who caused USCe to call not 1, but 3 separate TOs with this intentional behavior. He should have been flagged, especially for the ridiculous taunting display - Officials throw Taunting flags on players for celebrating TDs, but they don't throw one on a Head Coach obviously acting in an unsportsmanlike way Taunting his opponent at midfield - utterly ridiculous and that fat pos eminently deserved to be penalized.

Nah the offense simply needs to make its substitutions sooner and not try to do it twice in some instances. Apparently whiny Beamer is the only coach who doesn’t understand this. I guess he’s too busy complaining about how his team was robbed out of getting into the playoffs.

If South Carolina didn’t want this game then Beamer needs to STFU about not making the playoffs.

How so? What's a scrimmage have to di with the playoff?
I don't believe you or anyone else thinks SMU or Indiana is better than USCe because of yesterday. I hope not anyone. You're smarter than that

Stop the bullshit. I watched the entire game after the end of the Alabama/Michigan game. South Carolina didn’t treat it like a scrimmage and tried hard to win. If you think that I’m off base for criticizing Beamer and South Carolina and the other 3 loss SEC teams whining about not getting in the playoffs and then losing bowl games, then you are crazy.

Why did you watch the entire scrimmage?
People caring about a game doesn't change the importance of it. The stakes aren't the same. Penn State vs SMU/Boise State look very different in a bowl game than a playoff game.
The objective is the "best" teams--we all know Indiana and SMU weren't "the best teams"--South Carolina and Bama were better options. I'm glad they weren't in because it made our path easier but they'll fix this. You can't reward teams for avoiding competition.
Just like us against Ole Miss last year--this game meant nothing. Most people compete at anything they do--but that doesn't mean it's the same intensity as when games matter.
