Mike Powell is one of the many reasons I go to the Clash every year. Watching how he interacts and coaches, and watching his athletes compete, is always a blast.

I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Is Coach Powell the one who has to constantly deal with excessively high phosphate levels in his blood?

It appears coach Powell stepped down two years ago. I hope he's holding up ok.

He stepped down as head coach but is still on staff as an assistant. Basically he relinquished all of the administrative and fund raising duties. He still runs the practices and coaches at in season events (doesn't travel as much during the freco season). The move was made so that he can focus more time and energy doing what he does best which is "coach studs". He also has more time for his wife and 1 year old son now.
Good coach, great man.
