This - and nothing wrong with that.Speculation is that this is a RBY-esque ploy to cultivate more lucrative NIL deals.
Barr could do the 5 allowed matches without burning his shirt.Doesn't sound very reassuring, I think he's ready for a bigger stage and bigger fanbase. I wont be holding my breath on him coming back. But if he does, who fills in 174 if he does the Snyder-schedule? Sparingly throughout the season then comes back at nationals, they definitely won't burn Barr's redshirt for a part-time year. Idk who else is at 174. Ball and Cochran are too heavy. Maybe one of the Lee's? Scary thought.
I love the kid and hope he comes back but he’s gotta do what he thinks is right by himself. I honestly don’t see him making the Olympics regardless. Dake and Burrows at the lower weight and Taylor at the higher. He isn’t getting past them. JMO.
If he’s training for the Olympics at 74kg, he may go 165 in which case Barr is a full time 174 and Facundo is the part timer for the season.Doesn't sound very reassuring, I think he's ready for a bigger stage and bigger fanbase. Time as in 4 years from now?? Sure. But he isn’t displacing Dake or Taylor from this Olympic cycle.Kyle Dake just turned 32.
Jordan Burroughs will be 34.
David Taylor is 32.
Time is on Carter's side.
He will be back next year
And Gable Steveson the year before.Speculation is that this is a RBY-esque ploy to cultivate more lucrative NIL deals.
FWIW, Carter has already beaten Jason in Freestyle. As great as he is, I don't think he is beating DT, Brooks, Dake, JB or Jason in Freestyle. He might not get what they really have to offer in the room.
But who knows, that is why they wrestle.
He does have a freestyle win over Jason—but Jason has definitely improved since. Making the weight effectively seems like the first hurldle though. As great as he is, I don't think he is beating DT, Brooks, Dake, JB or Jason in Freestyle. He might not get what they really have to offer in the room.

He has verbally said that 5 isn't in his future and he's not a fan of class rooms, so extra years at PSU are highly unlikely.Said he is going to make a decision soon on whether he plans to go for 4 next year or not. Also certainly seems to be closing the door on going for 5.
I don’t know. How many peak years does an athlete have? How many does Carter have left at this point? 10? Maybe 15 at the most? If MMA is his next / ultimate goal, does it make sense spending another one of those years chasing something else? It’s going to take some years in MMA to get to the top to begin with. All of the other goals he has set can be achieved later.

If he has the ability to get to top of MMA, which I believe he has a good chance, one year will not stop him. He has the opportunity to achieve something that no-one will likely ever match. Financial opportunities will be standing ten deep at his door every morning.I don’t know. How many peak years does an athlete have? How many does Carter have left at this point? 10? Beating Nolf is just one of many hurdles. (And yes, he did at the non-Olympic 79 kg/173.8 lb.)Didn't he just beat Nolf in Freestyle???
Yeah, the weight thing is a huge obstacle with no 79 in the Olympics. Being a 174 folk style wrestler is a big disadvantage for making the Olympics.Beating Nolf is just one of many hurdles. (And yes, he did at the non-Olympic 79 kg/173.8 lb.)
To reach the Olympics, Carter will need to beat at least 3 of Burroughs, Nolf, Cenzo, Marsteller, Wick, O'Toole, Carr, Martinez if he enters.
That's for the right to face Dake.
And he'll have to do all of it 11 lb lighter than today.
That's the challenge, not merely beating any one of them.
Yep. But if he wants to and believes he can do it, I’m not sure training part-time folkstyle and part-time freestyle is the way to go about it.Beating Nolf is just one of many hurdles. (And yes, he did at the non-Olympic 79 kg/173.8 lb.)

I’d like to see the rematch. I sometimes wonder if it’s simply a case of superior fundamentals beats superior aggressiveness and creativity at the highest levels. You don’t believe the guy that wins every match 5-2 can beat the guy the wins every match by TF but then Dake goes and wins again. Kind of like Starocci.I think he will assess based on the next few free tourneys. I hold stock in beating Jason only from the point he can compete. That was the backside, they're room buddies, etc... I don't think the same results happen today. USO pen should be revealing in my book.
