I started a new thread because I wasn’t discussing today’s game.

Steelers add an Inside Linebacker through trade.

Making a move to add a veteran presence to the middle of their defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired linebacker Avery Williamson from the New York Jets on Sunday night, according to multiple national outlets.

According to ESPN, the Steelers are sending a 2022 fifth-round draft pick to the Jets for Williamson and a seventh-round selection in that draft.

In the aftermath of Devin Bush’s season-ending ACL tear, Robert Spillane has made two starts at inside linebacker. He had 10 solo tackles and returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown in the Steelers’ 28-24 victory against the Baltimore Ravens.

Spillane, though, was exposed in coverage against the Ravens on passing downs. His backup, Ulysees Gilbert III, missed the game with a back injury.

He is doing a nice job so far. My problem with Tomlin is that they lose 1-2 games each year that they never should lose. We'll see if that changes this year.

Every NFL team loses 1 or 2 games every year they shouldn't lose. It's the NFL. The talent gap isn't that big between most teams. So upsets happen.

How often did they happen with the Patriots. Elite teams don't lose games they should win..

Like the steelers pulling the upset yesterday. 200+ yardage deficit, 4 turnovers including a pick 6, two starting o-lineman leaving early with injuries, a 3 to 1 penalty advantage and a questionable call to end the game. the guy who said it looked like the indiana game was right on. unlikely that all lines up in the rematches.

Most teams in the NFL lose 3-4 games every year that they should win. Just looking at yesterday the 5-2 Rams lost to the 3-3 Dolphins with Tua making his first start ever in the NFL. The 5-1 Packers lost to the 1-5 Vikings. The 1-5-1 Bungles beat the 5-1 Titans. The 3-3 Raiders beat the 5-2 Browns. Heck, the Ravens were favored at home so you could include them as a team that lost yesterday that should have won. My point is that YOUR point is worthless without the context of how other NFL coaches do.

I'm a ravens fan. I'd be fine playing the steelers in the playoffs (just like I'm sure most here wouldn't sweat a rematch w Indiana). Preferably after they beat the chiefs.

Usually 1 or 2 per year. A few times it was in the Super Bowl against a NFC East opponent.

That Browns Raiders game was very entertaining. Twice FG kickers kicked at the left upright but in the 40 mph crosswind, missed it far left. If those were slices they'd looked like my tee shots.

was not a questionable call to end the game.

Watched the replay several times; Minkah went straight up and made a great play on the ball. I'm surprised this is an issue.

Shoulder to the helmet. Time also should have been added back to the clock with the injured player (not disputable). It is what it is though. Should never have been in that position.

Watch it again. Minkah went straight up for the ball, which he is entitled to do, just as the WR is. Completely legit breakup and no flag was thrown. Suck it up; these teams will play again, maybe twice.

What’s up with the Steelers? This is their big game vs the Ravens and they’re out there looking like they are just going through the motions. No intensity or fire. Lots of standing around and watching.

Steelers must be incredibly talented to be able to just go thru the motions and stand around with no intensity or fire and beat a good team like the Ravens. LOL

Anyone wonder why there wasnt a targeting review of the Steelers second inteeception? I think it was the Raven TE who cam in low with his head and lowered the boom on the Steelers LB for the tackle.

The clock runs until the play is over, not when the injury occurs.

Yup clock stops when the play is over. Snead was tackled with 17 seconds left on the clock which is when the play was blown dead and the clock should have been stopped for the injury. Glad we agree.

It doesn’t stop when the play is dead. The injury was way behind the play. The clock stopped when the refs blew the whistle when they became aware of the injury.

In case you still don’t understand the other play:

Steratore also said time should have been added to the clock...

As far as the final play, I'd argue it was illegal contact to the head of a defenseless receiver:

  1. Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
    1. forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him

Note 2: A player who initiates contact against a defenseless opponent is responsible for avoiding an illegal act. This includes illegal contact that may occur during the process of attempting to dislodge the ball from an opponent. A standard of strict liability applies for any contact against a defenseless opponent, even if the opponent is an airborne player who is returning to the ground or whose body position is otherwise in motion, and irrespective of any acts by the defenseless opponent, such as ducking his head or curling up his body in anticipation of contact.

We aren't going to agree. Enjoy the win just like the Indiana fans did.

I didn't hear that. My understanding is that the Steelers had to call a TO because Heyward couldn't get onside. The TO was called with 8 seconds on the clock. I can't find video of the segment following the play and the timeout though.

Argue all you want. The video shows 39 didn't initiate contact -- he had position and the WR ran into him. Minkah ended up flying 4 yards back from the hit. That's clear as day to anyone not wearing purple shades.

"CBS rules analyst and former NFL referee Gene Steratore said there should have been more time put back on the clock because of Heyward’s injury, but officials left the clock where it was." Cost Baltimore an additional shot at the end zone. Steratore and the announcers both said time should have been put back so you must have been trying not to hear it.

As I said enjoy the Indianaesque win and we'll see you on Thanksgiving and probably the playoffs.

That article also says Jackson spiked the ball with 8 seconds left. The Steelers were charged with a timeout with 8 seconds left. I'm not saying they are wrong, but I'd like to see a quote from Steratore after the game, not during the game when there was some confusion as to the call on the field.

Edit: Unrelated but after scrolling Gene's feed, sure would have been nice if foxsports had these cameras for the indiana game.

You're not being serious here, are you?

Watch the play. The receiver actually is the one who could be considered the "aggressor". Fitzpatrick is directly in front of the throw waiting for it. The receiver comes in from the side and initiates the contact with Fitzpatrick. Where do you see 'defenseless receiver' in that sequence?
