Who are they taking? I know some "mocks" had them taking Peppers but that's now a no-go....I have no idea. Just saw one in my local paper that has them taking a WR from Washington, Jon Ross..

With Bryant back in the picture I don't see them taking a WR with the first pick (later in the draft, yes). I think it all depends on who falls to them, I see them taking a DE, LB or CB with their #1.

I could also see a tight end if David Njoku from Miami happens to fall that late. But this draft needs to be heavy on defense - as you said, DE, LB, CB and a safety. I also see them adding a RB later.

Three of the first four picks better be people who can cover NE's slot receivers and/or guys that can rush the passer. Against teams like NE, they run that screwy dime w/ 3 CBs & 3 safeties. In that alignment they're missing a CB (Gay was finished last year - he won't get better), a safety (Golden got destroyed in that alignment), and a ROLB (I love Harrison as much as any Steeler all time - but he's 100). Unless the plan is to simply pray for brady to get injured, they can't afford to invest a high pick trying to find the QB in 2022.

Of course all that said & I expect the pick to be a traditional ILB - a guy who won't (or at least shouldn't) be on the field much against the team that's in their way. Timmons couldn't cover Edelman & the lacrosse player & a new, younger Timmons won't be able to either.

I saw that pick as well but I think it was contingent on what happened or happens with Martavius Bryant (sp?), so I don't know if that is
on the table or not.
I was hoping defense, specifically LBR and or CB or a DE that can get after the QB, If there was a good WR in the 3rd round maybe.

Should be cb, ilb, or s, but knowing the steelers and their fascination with linebackers, I'd bet on them going olb.

I can't understand all of the talk of WR in 1st or 2nd round.. NFL teams usually keep 5 or max 6 WR's on the roster, right now we have:
1) Antonio Brown
2) Martavis Bryant
3) Eli Rodgers
4) Sammie Coates
5) Justin Hunter
6) Heyward-bey
7) Ayers
8) Hamilton

Mostly, I think, its because no one knows the status of Bryant.
Also we may have all those WR's but frankly they have under performed and Heyward-bey is getting a little long in the tooth.

If they go TE in the top 3 rounds I believe that will be an indication of the health of their starting TE (sorry forgot his name) going into next season.

Lots of names, but not the talent to make plays against the teams that have plenty of coverage corners. Heyward-Bey is getting old and may be a former Steeler by the end of camp. Rogers and Coates are average at best. Really it's Brown and Bryant for top talent, with Bryant obviously being a big question mark.

There are obvious holes at CB, S, and LB, but if the Steelers see a player they really like at WR or even QB, they will surprise us..... From what I've read this draft will have CB talent available into the later rounds. I'm hoping the WR they like is named Chris Godwin.....

With 4 picks in the first 3 rounds I expect a surprise or two. Maybe a QB, TE, or WR among the first 4 picks.

Defense is a definite need.

I have a follow-up question: what about a QB. Yep Ben is good, however, whenever he gets hurt they have no "quality QB". Might be time to think about a future replacement. Just don't have faith in Landry Jones.

Nor is it an endorsement of our guy Jesse James being a front-line Tight End.
yeah, Ladarius Green is the starter, and your point is discussed in this article. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...green-may-lead-steelers-to-draft-a-tight-end/

"A year ago, the Steelers signed Ladarius Green to a four-year, $20 million contract, thinking that meant they had found Heath Miller’s replacement at tight end. It hasn’t worked out that way.

Green missed 10 games in the regular season and all three games in the postseason, and now the Steelers aren’t sure he’ll ever be ready to go. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that the Steelers’ coaches may not have any hopes for Green, and the Steelers are likely to draft a tight end.

There were reports shortly after Green arrived in Pittsburgh that the Steelers found out only after he signed that a lingering ankle issue and a history of concussions were worse than the team thought. The Steelers, however, said that wasn’t the case.

If the Steelers spend their first-round pick on a tight end tonight, that’s a strong sign that they’re not as confident in Green now as they were a year ago."

Yeah - not so sure that I agree. Brown is a top 3 receiver in the league. Bryant was conditionally reinstated, and has the talent to be a pro bowl level player.

Rogers put up 594 yards in only 13 regular season games. Extrapolate that to a full 16 games and you are looking at 730 yards.

Sammie Coates put up 421 yards in the first 5 games of the season before he got hurt and fell off the face of the earth. If he could sustain that, for a full season, he's on pace for a pro bowl season. I know he will most likely never get to that point. But to have a fourth receiver with that much potential? Few teams have that luxury.

Yea the Landry Jones experiment needs to end. I dont think he's even a viable backup, 3rd string at best.

cbssports latest mock still has the Steelers taking Jabrill Peppers...tell me they wouldn't do that. They can't be that dumb can they?

This is going to leave a mark but I'll say it anyway.
He's probably better than most of the people in the Steeler secondary and he can play multiple positions.
So yea while it would make me cringe it probably would be a good pick.

It's not about what Rogers, and Coates put up against Cleveland and the other garbage teams. It's about what they did not put up in prime time.....

They can't take Peppers after the drug test. Not with their history of drug issues recently, fairly or unfairly.

All the QB's and all the offense going so far is perfect for the Steelers. Some great CB's still on the board.
