I love how when the stock market drops 10 percent it's said to be "in correction". From now on, if we lose a game (won't be this week) I will not say Penn State lost. I will say "Penn State is in correction", unless it's OSU or Michigan, in which case it would be a "depression".:)

When we play tOSU on October 17th, we may be 6 and 0. If that's the case, then depending on how convincing the wins are and what other teams are doing Penn State could be ranked at high as 15 in one of the polls. If we lose to tOSU that week, and drop to 20 in the polls, then that would accurately be described as a correction. In that scenario, we really weren't good enough to be ranked 15, but after the loss to tOSU we dropped to where we should have been at that point.

This doesn't mean that I'm predicting that we'll be 6 and 0 coming into tOSU, or that we will lose to tOSU that week... both of these are highly possible though.

Agree, but no matter where we rank, or what our record, I will never again say we lost. I will say we are "in correction". It sounds a hell of a lot better. I think other teams may pick up on this and use the term as well. Rutgers goes 4-8, they say we didn't have a losing season, "we were in correction." :)

I think you're perceiving "in correction" to be a euphemism, with the intention of understating the severity of the drop. On the contrary, I see it the other way. If they say that it's a correction, that implies that the market has adjusted to its true value, in which case, it is more likely to stay there. I'm not a market expert, but that's how it sounds to me.

Perhaps so. I'm not into the market myself, but I've heard more about corrections in the past month than I did my whole life. I guess it's the new buzzword. Anyway, I don't like Penn State losses, so I will call them corrections, unless they are to OSU or Michigan in which case I will call them depressions.
