Figured I would go ahead and start a thread for the weekend.

These are the PSU commits I could find that are participating this weekend.

120 - Adam Busiello (No. 3)
120 - Brody Teske (No. 6)
132 - Carson Manville (Not a current commit but a potential target?)

I'm sure I missed a few targets so feel free to add below

This guy approves of how you started this thread. ;)

Just read that Chlebove went up to 132 to challenge Joey Silva! Love it. Like to see kids challenging themselves even if they take a loss instead of protecting their ranking. Pat Glory was supposed to compete but withdrew once he became ranked number 1 so he could concentrate on the upcoming season. How better to get ready for the season than to compete against top level competition?

I'd argue it's not about rankings -- it's about development and injury prevention. If you're Glory -- a senior who has made his college commitment -- what do you get out of S32 other than an ego stroke? Why not spend the weekend training at Princeton instead?

And then there's the event itself: in most weights, you have to wrestle more rounds than the NCAA Tournament, in one less day. Why take on that injury risk?

Plus your family has to pay for a trip to Greensboro, when you'd get at least as much benefit by staying at home.

It checks out

I’ll agree with some of that but I still believe you get better by competing against top competition. At least that’s how it worked for me. Also, if it’s not about rankings than why was Glory committed to wrestling at super 32 until after WNO? He’s a super talent and I’m not dogging on him, it’s just that I appreciate when someone like Chlebove goes up to challenge himself against the best and I love that Silva still came after his WNO performance.

Why is there no Carson Manville in the 132 brackets?. Not listed in 125 or 138 either. Did he opt out of the tournament?

Still believe it's a great event, and a notch in a kid's wrestling belt if they win. Plus there's always the national exposure and additional scholarship money that comes from moving up the ladder. Not disagreeing, it's just that there's more than one way to look at things...none of them wrong.

120 is loaded. Lots of good wrestlers. Watched Teske's last match. To play LemonPie here, it wasn't great. Just one match though, but he's going to have to wrestle a lot better than that to make the finals here.

Be pretty nice if him and Busiello made the finals or otherwise faced each other in consis, that way we'd have a real apples to apples comparison to work with. Agree Teske doesn't look great. Previous video I saw of him suggested a kid who takes maybe more chances than he should, but he's wrestling pretty tight today.

I thought Teske looked like Teske. He escaped easily and put a dominating ride on. He attacked legs the entire match and came with forward pressure. This is pretty much who he is. Tough rider/Good underneath/heavy hands forward on his feet/Always in shape. He is not a Jason Nolf/ Bo/Cenzo shock and awe talent. Solid in all aspects but not awe inspiring.

Caliber of competition, should have been able to do more. PA guys are familiar with his opponent. Tough kid, but if you're elite you should be able to put up more there.

Again, just one match early in tournament but the caliber of kid he will face is going to ratchet way up.

Busiello just easily tech'd his NJ opponent, Teske needs OT to beat Norwood, OH.

Anyone know what round they stop and pick up tomorrow?

I didnt think that was a slam w Teske. You guys?

He doesnt seem to finish his shots very well. get stuck in the transition. love his aggression and heart.

They called an illegal slam in that Teske match?

Yeah I really didnt think it was a big deal. Kid shot, teske went behind, trapped the arm and planted him on that shoulder. need to watch it again, but seemed weak. Kid let out a gasp when he hit the mat, but a slam I dont know. need to see it again.

i think teske had his right arm trapped and the other kid came down hard on his head. maybe there was a little extra unnecessary force in it, i don't know?

cassioppi is just rolling through this heavyweight bracket. 55 seconds combined for his 2 falls so far

ruth just lost in rnd of 32 to kid from TN. did nothing for 2 periods, bellied out the entire 2nd period. gets 2 easy TDs to start 3rd pd. then tries to ride and tilt, but with like 10 secs lefts get loose in his tilt and kid hips out for the win.

i think he should have cut him and got another 2 first. but oh well.

Clearly bored at this level. With 4 NCAAs already assured, you're only going to see his A game against guys like Burroughs.

Is Busiello perpetually injured? What's the stoppage time for?

Every time I watch him he's nursing some sort of injury

Edit: looks like blood time, but didn't really look great in the 3rd.

To answer your question honestly; yes, he seems to be a kid who thrives on either dominating or limping.

When he is killing people, you don't see a whole lot of stoppage....However, when he is in a tight battle, it seems his body/lungs begin to get stressed.

Fortunately for you guys, he dominates far more often.

I didn't see the match, so I can't speak with any certainty as to what happened.

I can offer this based on the description from dunke and from pusmacw. Before last year in HS, the rules were modified so that if the arm is trapped, and the wrestler whose arm is trapped is brought down to the mat, then it is supposed to be called a slam. This was a change from what everyone grew up with, so fans were very slow to realize the change, and even wrestlers and coaches had some confusion with the rule last season.

It seemed pretty clear that Fenton was both longer and stronger than Teske today. I would say that "concerned" is an appropriate observation.

Busiello in hole mat 1
Teske in hole mat 7

get your coffees and get ready for a barnstormer of a day

Teske looked off the entire day. Hate to make excuses, but a logical explanation is that he is not 100%.
