Suriano out

let the conspiracy theories run wild! Wait until just after the deadline to redraw the bracket, leaving Picc #8 with Gilman waiting in the semi.

I tend to believe that Suriano may have overestimated his recovery, and Cael gave him every chance to get ready, but during final drills today something happened. Feel bad for Suriano. His shot at being a 4-timer down the drain on a freak injury.

The vague and continual defense of Jimmy not winning, is growing tiresome. We all know 8 scoring wrestlers means Jimmy needs to win, and Penn State needs Jimmy to win. Sorry, but this is the last chance for Jimmy. Tired of the excuses. I've stood behind him too, but it's time to win, and that time starts tomorrow with Gasca.

Time to come out and say it. Anyway, they'll take the mat so it will happen one way or the other, tomorrow around 1pm.

I'm legitimately not sure what you're accusing me of here?

One wrestler out of 100 suffered a season ending injury. What the hell can you do?

It didn't help that Oklahoma State wrestles on a 99 year old mat held together with scotch tape, but whatever.

Wasn't directed at you.

I'm talking about the passionate attacks over my post that said we needed 8 scoring wrestlers.

Ah okay. I thought it was directed at me, my misunderstanding.

I don't think these are passionate attacks, I just think it's a message board and people like to poke fun. I'm sure you'd love it if our "7 scoring wrestlers" still won the title and you became a board meme if you will.

It probably didn't but Suriano having another human just roll over his foot is the culprit. I'm not sure their mat is to blame at all.

I'm with Nico. Not at all ready to give up hope these young men will bring home the championship. It's goes without saying it diminishes their chances. However, there are still 8 motivated wrestlers on this team that are going out starting tomorrow and put it all on the line to accomplish a goal. I can't wait for the tournament. It certainly will be a good break from dealing with all this dang snow. My son got stuck 3 times today!

It's just heartbreaking for Nick. To put all that work in all year long and to be so dominant as a true freshman and then lose his opportunity due to a freak injury. So sad. Here's to hoping Nick can come back and have a full recovery, and that the effects of his injury will not linger at all.

The odds are much better that we do, in fact, get 8 scoring wrestlers, and take the title. Unfortunately, the hatred of these people will get the best of them, and they'll find something else to criticize about my posts. They REALLY hate it when I'm right.

Every time you post and suggest that we CAN'T win without 8 is routing negatively against this team, that shows negativity and a lack of confidence towards 8 hard working and proud Penn Staters. I AM a fan of this team and believe they can win just like hundreds of other true supporters.

Take your negativity and shove it.

ps... why did you steal my avatar?

what is the deal with the mat? It is a Dollarmur mat, about 5 years old. Used about 6 times a year. Don't think it is worn out. How was Suriano' injury caused by the mat?

And I agree-if PSU had not been wrestling OSU in dual bowl or whatever it is called, probably would have been wrestling them home and home anyway that date.

We got this !!!! GUYS WILL STEP UP BIG....STAY POSITIVE....

In regards to coach speak, I do not picture Cael as the type to intentionally put a falsehood out there. When he said a few days ago that Nick was going live, I believe him. I tend to conclude that he may have re-injured it or aggravated it somehow.
I did not correlate coachspeak with falsehoods. Simply not showing his hand or generalizing. A lot of folks assume intent when Cael speaks. That's ok as that's what discussion boards are about This really sucks though as I wanted to see Nick live and in the finals

It was plain and simple bad luck. It happens. Nick is an amazing young wrestler and he will be one tough hombre next year. The guys wrestling have more than enough talent (and numbers) to get the job done. It won't be easy, but the NCAA tournament shouldn't be easy. Kick the tires and light the fires!!

I agree with James P. $hit happens. It's unfortunate and let's move on. I feel bad for Nick, and I'm sure he has to be sick to his stomach. Can we just let these kids go out and wrestle, they have been awesome all season. I still think we can with it!!!

Won't be enough. Need Jimmy too.

If PSU has 7 AAs, with 6 in the top 5, and still don't win, then I won't post for a year. Jimmy will probably score .5 points

Comes down to Cutch making AA and Mark/Joseph/Nevills making high AA

Oh, by the way.

Even with 8 kids suiting up, the Lions will win the title. It will just be a little closer than it was going to be.

That's a damn shame for Nick. He'll be preseason No. 1 next year.

We can still win, but our margin for error is lowered significantly.

I wonder if knowing this going in will help everyone who is wrestling? What I mean is that if the guys wrestling know that the team needs them to advance further or to score more bonus points, will it motivate them or will it just be added pressure? My guess is it will affect each guy differently. I wonder, for example, whether JG was impacted by Suriano not being able to go at the Big Ten tourny.... or, did it make Bo more/too aggressive in his loss?

Don't know. They just have to score. OSU (to their credit) wrestled an otherworldly Big10 tournament, and without Nick there we nearly won it anyway.

I'm confident. We've got major bonus scorers at 6 weights.

It got Matt Brown majored against Minnesota a few years back, I know that.

Oklahoma State scored 13 bonus points last year. 8.5 of those points graduated, and I don't see anyone filling them in.

Ohio State scored 16, and I don't see that anyone stepped up this year to increase that significantly.

If we score similar to our 23, we'll win this thing by 7-10.

7 on 7 vs Ohio State....the last time in B1G's in the non 7 on 7's,

Ohio State 15
PSU 3.5

Like I said, 8 scoring wrestlers.
