Suriano out

You were right, I was wrong. You have my apology.
Everyone thought he could give it a shot including all the Coaches...I just feel sick in the stomach for Nick....That is alright...Everything happens for a reason and often times we don't understand...Let's keep the faith and Nick will bounce back in a Big way....The other guys will step up big for us !!!!

Just another competition date at the very end of the year for meaningless bragging rights.

I know he could have hurt himself twisting an ankle on the curb outside his dorm; however, they got little to nothing from competing in that dual except the loss of a potential 20 point scorer from their roster at Nationals.

Sorry for the rant...
Agree totally get rid of them.Good luck to Nick in the future.

It also appears that Flo, was also right, when they projected zero points at 125 for PSU, due to Suriano's injury.

I don't believe we are the favorite any longer, but there is more to wrestling than the team championship: Sad for Suriano most of all.

Still pulling for the 8 kids we are sending on to the mats, and nothing at all wrong with a 2nd or 3rd place finish.
If you go by equating their seed to where they place along with advancement points, PSU is 5.5 points behind Oklahoma State. Factor in the bonus differential and PSU is probably about 3 to 7 points ahead. It also puts Ohio State back in the race. Should be a very close tournament. If PSU does not win, we will know how Oklahoma State felt last year losing two starters in Brock and Crutchmer.

Lots can happen and as they say that is why they actually wrestle and not just give out medals based on seedings. Obviously not the favorite but not far off. Think they will be a determined bunch after the big 10 championships and more so with Suriano out. Any of the other top teams have an upset and PSU is right back in it especially with bonus points. Even at that PSU should not be far back from the top, throw in some strong bonus points and they will be pushing everyone.

The guys have always picked each other up. It's a trait of this close-knit group. Looking forward to the tournament...

Nevills was out for Penn State and they still were way ahead of OSU last year.

To look on the positive side, if Suriano couldn't go, I'd rather the team know now instead of having to deal with disappointment *during* the tournament. Such in-tournament disappointment can harm momentum.

Not this group. Has the opposite effect, imo.

In regards to coach speak, I do not picture Cael as the type to intentionally put a falsehood out there. When he said a few days ago that Nick was going live, I believe him. I tend to conclude that he may have re-injured it or aggravated it somehow.

I like to remove uncertainty. Especially since Cael has expressed the importance for Hall and Gulibon in particular to wrestle without putting extra pressure on themselves. I want them to not have any last-minute (subconscious) decision on how much to increase the pressure on themselves to win or bonus.

We are still the favorite.

Anyone else remember when Matt Brown came out and tried to pin his opponent for team points against Minnesota?

Exactly.

Just be yourself and wrestle your own game. It's an individual sport also, and there is more to life than the team championship.

War's over, Wurmer dropped the big one. Just finish as high as you can, nothing wrong with the third place or second place trophy.

Your dual with OSU was great for the sport. #1 vs #2, doesn't get better than that. I hope schools don't run from real competition next year because one guy suffered a fluke injury.

I think 10 teams participated this year, with 10 wrestlers per weight, and exactly one of them suffered a season ending injury.

My math tells me that the chances of that happening then, were exactly 1%.

I'm not going to blame the National duals for something that had a freaking 1% probability happening.

I feel terrible for Nick because I think he had prepared himself to win it all this year. However, champions are born from the crucible of their life experiences and I have no doubt that this will only make Nick hungrier to reach the pinnacle next year.

On the other hand, I don't believe that the team will expect anything less than winning the title this year despite not having Nick. And although the margin for error has decreased, imagine the euphoria they will experience when they overcome this setback to win it all. I believe that Penn State will beat the odds and win the championship this year!

Not with 7 scoring wrestlers.

1) super sad for an outstanding young man.
2) PSU will rise to the challenge
Agreed. Never saw Morgan more intense than he was v. Ok St. last year. He was furious after McCutcheon was injured. There certainly wasn't an element of intent with Nick, but I would expect heightened intensity from the whole team.

I posted this on HR but why don't they move all seeded wrestlers up one spot and redraw the rest of the field? Don't try and find the 16 seed and both pigtail guys are in. Not sure if that would hurt or help PSU but it only seems right or am I off my rocker?

P.S. Feel sorry for Suriano, any guy that trains as hard as these guys in D1 for the big show regardless of team earn my respect.

You're defining coach speak.... being truthful and (overly) optimistic.... "he's wrestling now" knowing that he's nowhere near 100%

21 Guns, calm down, we don't need to throw the baby out of the bathwater here. We can win with 7 scoring wrestlers, it just reduces our margin of error significantly.

The rule book defines how a situation like this is handled. Don't remember exactly, but there's a point (24 hrs??) when it's done exactly as it's been stated.

The vague and continual defense of Jimmy not winning, is growing tiresome. We all know 8 scoring wrestlers means Jimmy needs to win, and Penn State needs Jimmy to win. Sorry, but this is the last chance for Jimmy. Tired of the excuses. I've stood behind him too, but it's time to win, and that time starts tomorrow with Gasca.

Time to come out and say it. Anyway, they'll take the mat so it will happen one way or the other, tomorrow around 1pm.
