they are changing the name "disabled list" to "injured list". Apparently, lots of complaints about the old name and it was confusing who get the best parking spots at the stadium.

LOL...that should make everyone feel better about MLB. Next year, they are considering doing something about the hit batsmen. What do you think about Baseball Touching Person?

I was expecting this thread to be along these lines:

While we're changing baseball terminology, why do announcers say "Swung on and missed?" You swing at the ball, not on the ball. This needs to be changed NOW! It's an OUTRAGE.

Where I come from, we say he "swang" at the ball. :)

On a more somber note I saw that the lady that was hit with the batted ball at a MLB game last year had died, which I didn't know. Her family just settled a suit with the team. Very sad.
A friend of mine was at the Iron Pigs game last summer and got hit in the face with a batted ball. It broke his cheek bone and he lost two teeth. Very lucky it wasn't worse. Not exactly what you expect when you go to a game with the family.

Right! and it is R'sBI not RBIs. You don't say Run Batted Ins.

But they are disabled in baseball terms. Stupid PC country

When we hear this kind of shit at work we use the catchphrase of The Kid from Brooklyn. Check him out online.
If you think all this is bad, listen to the new spokeswomen for today’s generation. Listen to what comes out of the mouth of Cardi B and Ocasio-Cortez

Just as an FYI, this was done at the behest of groups that serve, and advocate on behalf of, disabled people. And MLB was the only major sports league that used that terminology.

We now bring you back to your regularly scheduled programming, another rerun of your favorite series, "Get Off My Lawn!"

People at the ballpark down low need to pay attention to the game.

Obli, you had me going.

I thought this was trouble at the MLB position. But instead is about baseball, the most boring sport on the planet....

I'm just happy our Middle LineBackers are all OK!!

Not to derail, but there are a serious number of changes being considered. The one that is really interesting to me is that a pitcher must face a minimum of 3 batters. This is designed to stop the number of pitching changes.

I think I'm going to sue all the traffic reporters out there each time I hear them say there's a disabled vehicle in the roadway.

im not sure what is the best way to handle this ..but something needs to be done. maybe a limit to # of pitching changes in an inning.

One of the dumbest rule changes proposed is putting a runner on 2nd base to start extra innings. How about you just call the game a tie after a certain amount of extras.

I hope they implement that rule. If a pitcher can't face everyone in the opponents lineup he has no business being in the majors. That alone will probably decrease game times by at least 20 minutes.

Well...there are going to be a lot of pitchers getting shelled early in the inning that go on the DL....err...IL

With all due respect to advocates of any group of people, the word "disabled" has many uses and isn't the property of anyone. As someone noted above, a person can be disabled from playing baseball - as in "not able" to do so. If I say my car is disabled, is it making light of a severely disabled person? Will I now be required to say my car is "broken down" or "dead in the water". Or is "dead" bad too? Maybe I'll just go with the old standby and say "My car shit the bed."

I propose the shortstop position be renamed to "the infielder who usually stands to the left field side of second base". "Shortstop" is anti-midget. Yeah, I wrote midget. Sue me. Speaking of which, does anyone still play midget football or race midget cars?

I assume that people who shit the bed are offended by this post, but I have them all on ignore, so I can't be sure.

Yep. The good old blister on finger or sore elbow...any number of minor excuses. That's why they should tack on a mandatory minimum number of games a pitcher has to sit out if he leaves before the 3 batters faced.

One of my favorites is a "Quality at bat". It's an out. Dress it up all you like but it's a freakin out
Not all outs are the same. Are you going to tell me that a strikeout is better than putting the ball in play? Are going to tell me that grounding a ball to short with a runner on 2nd is better than hitting the ball the other way and advancing the runner? Are you going to tell me that a popout to 2B with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs is better than hitting a deep fly out that can score the runner. Think again partner.

I can give more examples.

She was in the second level (not that she shouldn’t be paying attention, but not like she was right behind the dugout on her phone).
Yeah, but the point is the same. There are some places in the ballpark where you need to pay attention. Even in the 2nd level, if a guy hits a screamer past the netting, you better be alert or you risk getting bonked.

Go for it but fundamentally, it's a failure to hit the ball safely. I've never considered moving a runner a bad at bat. Quality at bat is different from a sacrifice

There are a plenty of other examples. I'll give you a classic one. Game 6, '86 World Series. Game tied bottom 10th. Mookie Wilson at the plate. Stanley pitching. Mookie fouls off pitch after pitch after pitch, staying alive in the AB when many hitters would have struck out, but he kept getting a piece. Finally hits the famous slow roller down to 1st that gets through Buckner's legs. Mets win the game and the series. He hit what was 99% of the time an out, but because he stayed alive and put it in play finally, Buckner was forced to make a play on a routine ball, but he didn't. Quality at bat, big time.
