Dominate the line of scrimmage?

Hell, we can't even dominate a 1-yard first down when need it or a QB sneak for Pete's sake!

Future problems against more quality competition for sure folks!

We got trouble right here in River City!!!

:mad::mad::mad:

Blow people OFF the ball you say?

Maybe with the help of a hurricane now being formed in the Atlantic Ocean maybe!!

Did you watch Oklahoma? We look like the 1971 Nebraska running game compared to them today...NOBODY is able to run in the modern game other than Army lol.

The pass blocking is fine. The run blocking is terrible.
The apparent thought processing goes like this: we throw better than we run (aka we have no home run hitter on the ground but several thru the air) so the technique that augments our passing attack is more important than that which enables our running game to succeed. Technique of roaders.

I don't appreciate it (we should be knocking nova over and running wild... at least in my esteemed opinion lol) but we know we can throw the 'hide near and far quite successfully.

Still think K Lee will turn into our #1 RB if he holds onto the rock. The guy won't go down.

Boston College's Oline still wrecks people- str8 up blew Mizzou off the line today. Arkansas has a pretty nasty Oline too.
My girlfriends friends can block Mizzou.
Saw that!

Damn the West Coast offense!

They started it all..the decline! LOL!!
The Arizona Wildcats are dominating the line of scrimmage against 3rd ranked Oregon.

The BWI postgame video with Thomas Frank Carr has a really good balanced discussion of this. The interior of the line isn't doing badly. The TEs are not there yet and the running backs are not making good choices. It will not be a dominant running team but things will improve with practice. They don't need to be a great running team, they just need to be enough to make play action credible. This is a big play passing offense -- they're not trying to be Wisconsin. Remember how awful the running game was in 2016, even with Saquon Barkley? That team managed to score points and win games. This will be a better running team and better pass blocking team.

In today’s football I’ll take that 400 yard passing game and live with 100 yards rushing

that quick pass to the edge is part of our running game and it works the majority of the time

it's fine

JF addressed our running game “challenges” in his post game press conference.

Its Refreshing in today’s world of a Leader stating weaknesses and being truthful of needs to be addressed.

Hopefully, Seider can get his backs inline and synced with Trautwein.

100yds rushing is more than fine with 350+ yds passing per game and a great defense!

We Are!

Slow down. We are four games into the installation of the third blocking scheme in as many years and one not terribly well suited to the players on hand (linemen and running backs). It will take time. Installing a new offense is a process, especially given the churn of the last few years. This was never going to be a fast turnaround but we are ahead of schedule despite personnel limitations. Yurcich is doing a great job.

Michigan is averaging 300 yds rushing per game. They have other problems but you're wrong to say that nobody can run the ball in the modern game.

PSU is currently ranked 13th out of 14 BiG teams in rushing offense. I think PSU has a good team but that stat has to improve if they hope to win the BiG East.

True statement. In a year like this when there is very little difference between the top five in the Big Ten, we are one bad weather game in November from being left on the outside looking in when it comes to the Big Ten title game, and we we close at the season at Michigan State where the weather always seems to be horrible.

He was extremely tentative yesterday and runs too high (upright).

Please explain how this new scheme is not “well suited to players on hand”.
Thank you.

OL

Hell, did you see the Beavers blowing USC off the line? I know, it’s USC, but still, 350 yards rushing??
Wow! Oregon State and Georgia State. Two schools with road grader OL. Hard to believe. We have to get this piss poor run blocking fixed.

UM did not run for that much yesterday

The number 1 priority for us right now is for the OL is to keep Clifford alive and upright. Yes we need balance to have a playoff hope. But giving Clifford time and protection is our only real hope this season. If he goes down, its over for the year. In addition, the spread is tougher to run from. The score said ND dominated Wisconsin, yet ND had only 242 yds total offense and 3 yds rushing. Yep, .1 yds per carry. The score was lopsided because Wisconson's offense was ND's best weapon. 4 picks, with 2 being a pick six and a QB fumble, not to mention a KO return for a touchdown. Just like everyone, I'm so disappointed in our inside zone rushing game so far. Even with OSU's defensive struggles so far, their offense has been explosive and balanced because they have a very good OL to compliment all the skill pieces. I'm hoping ours can improve as we progress. It's not just having road graders but with spread offenses the interior line really has to communicate and see what the defense is doing. It's our least experienced area and will take time to develop. The question is if they will develop quickly enough.

Frank is wrong.

When you can't even get a 1st down running behind the center or slightly off to either side, you have problems.

Let me know when FRANK is hired by other college teams or NFL teams to FIX their run problems!!

Yurcich yes.

Traut no way in hell.

After rewatching the game, i didn’t think the Oline was as bad as I thought. The TE’s missed some blocks that led to loss of yards. Lovett missed a blitz pickup that led to a sack. On another sack, Clifford held the ball too long waiting for downfield to develop and missed wide open underneath guys. The oline is also getting used to a wide zone blocking scheme. Also, I think our handoffs are too deep and slow developing. When u watch the video, you see a hole develop and the blocking is there yet the ball isn’t even handed off yet.

Agreed to a point sir.

But, wide-zone blocking can't get you a first down when you need to PUSH the defender 1 yard further down the field.

We got problems.

Gaining only 80 yards on 34 carries (2.4 YPC) was really inexcusable for an offensive line with the size and athleticism of Penn State’s. It also allowed Clifford to be sacked three times - Mark Brennan and he used to work for Phil & BWI.

I wish we had 100 yards rushing......
Rushing yards vs:

Wisconsin 50
Ball State 240
Auburn 84
Villanova 80

FWIW Ball State is now 1-3 after getting stomped by Wyoming and losing to Toledo by 10. What happened to the MAC champs with almost everybody returning?
