And they're mostly Wide ReceiversMy girlfriends friends can block Mizzou.
It was 1980 to be exactIt was the 80s.

Yeah, it's a mystery why we can't run the ball better. The OL is pretty experienced and proven with at least one future pro. You can criticize the OL coach all you want, but he is a proven commodity from other schools. So is Yurcich. The backs were all highly rated out of HS and while there is no real star here, they seem capable. Whatever is wrong, they need to fix it.
This whole thread is just so funny to me. PSU's offense has been a mess pretty much for three years. By the second year of that nice out-of-his-depth dude who went to ODU, the PSU offense was capable of running possibly 5 or 6 plays, and McSorley and receivers were playing like they had maybe met each other once at a party.
Now for the first time since Joe Moorhead we actually have high level offensive coaching that puts the ball where the other team is short defensive players, we have a QB and receivers playing with confidence and attacking. And for the first time in Franklin's entire tenure we have an OL that can pass block at a high level.
So naturally Penn State fans spend all their time complaining about the lack of a running game.

Dominate the line of scrimmage?
Hell, we can't even dominate a 1-yard first down when need it or a QB sneak for Pete's sake!
Future problems against more quality competition for sure folks!
We got trouble right here in River City!!!
Blow people OFF the ball you say?
Maybe with the help of a hurricane now being formed in the Atlantic Ocean maybe!!
Teams don't have to run the ball effectively if they can score multiple TDs on KO returns and pick 6s. But I don't think you can count on that.Final ND - WISC score sir??
Wide receiver screens are the new run game. Passing behind the line of scrimmage should be counted as runs, just like a flip in a jet sweep is counted as a pass 😛The apparent thought processing goes like this: we throw better than we run (aka we have no home run hitter on the ground but several thru the air) so the technique that augments our passing attack is more important than that which enables our running game to succeed. Technique of roaders.
I don't appreciate it (we should be knocking nova over and running wild... at least in my esteemed opinion lol) but we know we can throw the 'hide near and far quite successfully.
Still think K Lee will turn into our #1 RB if he holds onto the rock. The guy won't go down.
Saw a comment on here from someone about how BC still runs the ball effectively. Who the hell do you think was the OL line coach before he went to PSU?Yurcich yes.
Traut no way in hell.

Yesterday when QB was under center the TB was about 8-9 yards deep. At least once someone came in from the edge and stopped the TB for a loss. Why not just line up 20 yards deep?JF addressed our running game “challenges” in his post game press conference.
Its Refreshing in today’s world of a Leader stating weaknesses and being truthful of needs to be addressed.
Hopefully, Seider can get his backs inline and synced with Trautwein.
100yds rushing is more than fine with 350+ yds passing per game and a great defense!
We Are!
Yeah, yeah...so was Limejuicer. You can criticize the OL coach all you want, but he is a proven commodity from other schools.
I listened and JF is not standing around bemoaning this team not becoming the second coming of Woody Hayes. Clearly the running game (blocking and running back play) needs to improve, but this offense is what it is. This team is going to live and die by throwing the ball.Well, if you listened to the CJF after the game presser listed above, HE feels the same way on may things!
Yes Franklin makes this point. If people are playing safeties down and bunching linebackers it's totally pointless to try to run between the tackles. So you run wide screens and swing passes to tailbacks to attack the part of the field where the defense isn't playing.Wide receiver screens are the new run game. Passing behind the line of scrimmage should be counted as runs, just like a flip in a jet sweep is counted as a pass 😛

Trautwein on has a heck of a record of success…agree with you on results running ball so far…but we may have to give him some time.Yurcich yes.
Traut no way in hell.
409 wins…all-time offense innovator what the heck did Paterno know?Yes Franklin makes this point. If people are playing safeties down and bunching linebackers it's totally pointless to try to run between the tackles. So you run wide screens and swing passes to linebackers to attack the part of the field where the defense isn't playing.
One of the infuriating things about Paterno was his stubbornness in wasting downs running into 8 and sometimes 9 men in the box. There's no moral victory in wasting downs. This coaching staff isn't going to waste a lot of plays trying to win moral victories.
FAnboys....lol409 wins…all-time offense innovator what the heck did Paterno know?
PSU 4-0.Trautwein on has a heck of a record of success…agree with you on results running ball so far…but we may have to give him some time.
I agree with this 100%. Play the GD game the way it used to be played. Blocking and tackling!Dominate the line of scrimmage?

That was January 1, 1970. The Orange Bowl.Maybe I should have added in a bowl game I think.
Now you know that's not going to happen.I agree with this 100%. Play the GD game the way it used to be played. Blocking and tackling!
Our fans demand excellence. No. Our fans demand PERFECTION. That is all. No quarter given for imperfect coaches.

Boston College's Oline still wrecks people- str8 up blew Mizzou off the line today. Arkansas has a pretty nasty Oline too.
What is his record of success?? The 2 yrs at BC or the 2 yrs as TE coach at Davidson that was 3-19?Trautwein on has a heck of a record of success…agree with you on results running ball so far…but we may have to give him some time.
IrrelevantBC's scheme is different. When they call a play they know if it going to be a run or pass not like our RP scheme.
Frank is wrong.
When you can't even get a 1st down running behind the center or slightly off to either side, you have problems.
Let me know when FRANK is hired by other college teams or NFL teams to FIX their run problems!!
That was January 1, 1970. The Orange Bowl.
Yeah, how many teams are beating down your door looking for your advice on their running game? At least someone is willing to pay Frank for his opinion.
