Thank You Auburn for an INCREDIBLE game.......

Would have been nice to play this game without SEC officials cheating. Really, it was that bad.
If I were Franklin I’d make sure this was a story by mentioning it in the post game press conference. Egregious calls ALL went against Penn State. Hell, they took a down away from us. That may be the worst officiated game I’ve ever seen.

Game easily could have gone either way. I thought the home crowd would have more of an influence.

In all honesty, most teams have not been affected by the White Out over the years. At most it has been responsible for a few false starts and timeouts. It's more for the fans. It signifies a big game, but it was always clear what the big games were.

I think it's a cool thing that we do, but it's really not that huge of a factor.

Not sure what you mean. I'm just saying, for example, that 2002 Nebraska maybe was the loudest that the stadium has ever been (including OSU 2005) and everyone knew it was the biggest game of the season. And the white out did not exist yet.

big games at night have always been a huge event, regardless of the white out. Guido D'Elia came up with that, and it was cool, and it is part of the image now. But there is no decisive advantage from it. PSU is 9-8 in these games.

Name a team outside of Bama, Clemson, and OSU over the same time frame of White Outs who is 9-8 against the toughest opponent on their home schedule or better.

Don't forget that we were sanctioned for a handful of these as well.

It's probably not a quantifiable thing, but it's not a bad thing to have this much home field crowd engagement during, arguably, your toughest home game of the season.

Go back to our recruits who have brought it up and decided that they want to be apart of it.

It's fun. It's bucket list memorable.

I think I sort of agree with you in that the White Out does not equal some unmanageable force that opposing teams can't overcome. But, the White Out's greatest benefit is the fact that it gets people talking about Penn State. Last night was like a 4 hour promotional piece on Penn State football. We often gripe about the announcers, but Fowler last night just couldn't stop gushing about the White Out. And at least to me, it seems genuine. Scenes like yesterday with GameDay and then the White Out game are very, very good for Penn State, over and above the immediate results on the scoreboard.

and not flooding this board all week. You guys were all all class, thank you....that is a tough loss, but it will make you ready for the rest of the year. Stick to the run game and you guys will be super dangerous.
109% agree! Great fans, great atmosphere. That’s a bloody good team. I’m a new fan of theirs. We need more games vs. the SEC. Come on Sandy, do it! I think I read somewhere that it was their first game in a B1G stadium since 1931...

The last time Auburn came north was 1931 at Wisky. It may also pre date the formation of the SEC.

A good chunk of white-outs were whilst in the depths of sanctions and also vs Ohio or tough Michigan teams where we are ranked much lower or not at all. Of course the white-out record isn’t great. But you have no special ability to state what the on field impact is to snapping the ball, players getting pumped up, nerves for the opposition, concentration, etc. Your statements are full conjecture and opinion. Some may agree with you, some may not.

I mean, White Outs are reserved for the biggest games against the toughest competition. That we’re over .500 in them is pretty remarkable. Not like we’re playing Temple when we have them.

Flower has some Penn State history and the games at the Beav are like a homecoming.

Ok a couple thoughts

1 Great game by two relatively well matched teams Auburn may be a little bettter than #22. We may not be as good as #10.

2. The SEC officials sent an email stating they were wrong re: the miscounting of downs. I saw that on a PSU post game on YouTube

3. Great game by SC. Not too much to quibble with except the int. He had Lovett underneath and he could have thrown it to him before the defender got to him. That would have been a FG attempt at least.

4. Hope the AU fans enjoyed themselves at The Beav. Except the score of course.

5. If Brandon Smith makes that pick 6 it would have been huge.

6. it took a while for my heart to slow down after the game.

The most important impact of a White Out is recruiting.

Over the years, the great PSU linebackers made big plays in big games. So far, #12 has not lived up to his 5 star rating. What I see is a great athlete, but an average LB. He is on his 3rd season and still does not make the sure tackle by wraping up. He is a liability in pass coverage and still seems out of position on too many plays. Wondering if the light is ever going to come on for him.

Brandon Smith seems to be thinking too much on the field...... I had really hoped that he would be living in the backfield forcing the QB into errors.....but I only saw a few times when they turned him lose. On obvious passing Auburn was giving help against AK and sometimes help on Luketa.....and handling the DTs 1 on 1. For this Defense to get to the next level we need that pressure up the middle......Mustipher ok against the run....need some pressure on passing.....Beamon if and when he returns would be helpful in getting some penetration....and perhaps even sacks from the middle of the DEF.

A few thoughts:
  • Auburn is better than Wisconsin. They have good athletes all over the field and are very well coached. I bet at the end of the season we look back and say that Auburn was the second best team we played.
  • We win by about 20 with fair officiating.
  • This was the best performance by a Penn State football team in the post-Paterno era.
