Was watching the Nashon/Brock match... is Nashon's takedown truly a takedown? We had similar conversation about this position with Jimmy at VaTech - only difference was being in on a single at first... Interested in anyone's perspective here or 'official' ruling...

Well he ended up on top of him and mat returned him a couple times so I'd think it was...

no kidding.... think you missed the question.... q based on locking hands on the near cradle....Jimmy G did it on the edge of the mat with his opponent not having hold of Jimmy's legs...

I don't know how relevant our.discussion is, but it certainly is relevant to consider whether or not the position represents a takedown. Officials need to achieve as much consistency as possible.

In neutral position you need to take the wrestler to his hip in a cradle situation for the TD.

The correct call was made in the 141 Va Tech/ Penn St. match. Jimmy G did not take his opponent 's hip to the mat.

The ref gave Garrett the TD when Brock was still on his knees with his hip NOT on the mat. He most definitely had the TD just seconds later but according to you he should NOT have had it when the ref called it.

You may be correct, but if you are that is a very recent rule change (last year) that I missed. Which is very possible, but I have not seen a single post anywhere that addressed the call being correct because of a new rule change.
A couple years ago they changed the rule to hands locked and wrestler to side (or something to that effect). Garrett twice got that exact call against Nico in the semi-finals two years ago.

Jimmy had a takedown, and it really wasn't much of a subjective call - it was pretty straight forward.

if you lock up a cradle on the mat, you have to force the opponent to his hip.

if you lock up a cradle while standing, he only has to touch one hand

thanks for all the input. Clearly they gave Garrett a TD a little to early. He did get it as he put Brock on his hip but after the ref gave him two!

Silly rule. If starting from feet only hand needs to touch for td but if already on both hands and knees its not at td.
Should be to the hip in both scenarios or 3 supporting points down in both but not a different criteria for each.

I mean you get a standing cradle, hand touches, td awarded then he drops to all fours and considering a td would not be awarded if you were locking the cradle now as opposed to standing you are somehow in less control?
