Under Obama, ISIS controled half of Syria and a third of Iraq. And that covered almost all of the Kurdish territories. With Trump's and US military help, ISIS is pretty much toast in those areas. Further, the Kurds now control much of western Syria except for a strip along the Turkish border. Thats a lot more territory than they have ever controlled before.
In those lands are several oil fields in both Iraq and Syria. This oil will help finance a Kurdish government including a strong military with which they can protect themselves. And we are keeping forces in the area of the oil fields so that ISIS, Syria, Hezbullah, Iran, Turkey, and/or Russia will not get that oil.
The Kurds did not 'fight our battle for us' as many claimed. They fought for their own lands, their own people, their own villages. We helped in that fight because we had a common enemy. That doesn't mean we obligated to remain there forever. But even though we withdrew from the Turkish border the Kurds have benefited greatly from our assistance.
