I watched the game three times this weekend focusing on just the line. Oline and Dline. Our D-Line played better than expected and our O-Line played worse then expected. The tought that came to my mind was that the coaches called a running play on 4th and 4 or 5 yards with the game and season (?) on the line. Five big O_Linemen, all 4 star or above heard the play call, knew the play, knew that they were being asked to man up, block the guy assigned to them and gain 5 yards. The play lost a yard. The OSU players wanted to make a tackle more than the PSU line wanted to block them and clear a path. The 4 star Penn State linemen were beaten all night by the 4 or 5 star d-linemen of the Buckeyes. Over-rated coming out of HS? Not trained properly? , not tough enough? I only played D3 college football linebacker, but I do know that when you line up, someone is going to win each battle at the line of scrimmage. The buckeyes won all night versus our OLine.
Our d-line fared much better than we expected and there have been plenty of discussion son the board about how thin we are at DT.... I will not rehash them. I think that the next step in going to elite lebvel is getting better in the trenches through better recruiting, better player development, better cohesion.
