Fair but can't predict the future and Baker was awful in 2021Could not have turned out any worse than it has.
The current Pirate ownership is pathetic. There was an event held in Pittsburgh this past week sponsored by Pat MaCafee and hosted at the PPG Paints arena.
During this event, Paul Skenes was introduced to the crowd who promptly began to chant in unison 'sell the team!'.
They should have been chanting for him to BUY the team.
If Paul could get together with Mario and discuss actually putting together a consortium to purchase the Pirates from Nutting.......
As a player/owner, he would not be as concerned with his salary and more concerned with the team winning and their long term economic viability of the franchise in which he would have a considerable vested interest.
If the Nutting continues to retain ownership and the franchise continues to suck, perhaps Nuttings name should be incorporated into the reporting of every loss that the franchise incurs.
Or maybe some protesters, ala Tesla, should descend upon and protest at all of the Nutting owned business and resorts.
He may be the current owner of the team, but the once proud Pittsburgh Pirate franchise and their fans need to think outside the box and make his business model less desirable if this team that he assembled propensity to suck continues.....
The Problem is that the words Pathetic and Profitable do not belong in the same conversation. The current Pirate ownership is pathetic.
I believe people in Pittsburgh would like to have a competitive team and would support such a team with their attendance. I also believe that with just a reasonable amount of more investment they could be competitive and Profitable both. As it stands now, I have no desire to blow 150 to 200 bucks to go watch them play. It’s a beautiful ballpark, but the product on the field is pathetic due to the ownership. The Problem is that the words Pathetic and Profitable do not belong in the same conversation.
This team, especially with all of the injuries, is as bad as the White Sox were last season. I actually can’t see how they will win even 60 games this season. Also, with the exception of the Yankees, they actually have played a rather soft schedule so far.Trail 4-1 to the lowly reds again
Despite my better judgment, I’m going to next Saturday’s game against the Indians. My brother has four tickets and offered me one. The only reason why I’m going is because I actually like to watch this particular Indians team; I’m certainly not going to watch the Pirates, which is sad because Three Rivers Stadium practically was my second home in the summer when I was a kid when my uncle used to take my brother and me to about half the games and sit in the left field GA seats.I believe people in Pittsburgh would like to have a competitive team and would support such a team with their attendance. You can sit anywhere you want. They are getting about 3,000 per game, tops. Stadium is empty.Despite my better judgment, I’m going to next Saturday’s game against the Indians. Well, it is a Skenes bobble head give away, and I’m sure that many Indians fans will be there. You can sit anywhere you want. They are getting about 3,000 per game, tops. Stadium is empty.
What Nutting is doing to Skenes is an outright crime.Well, it is a Skenes bobble head give away, and I’m sure that many Indians fans will be there.
This was going to be a bad team under the best of circumstances, but here’s what’s happened with this organization since the winter: their big off season move was trading a promising starting pitcher and two other pitching prospects to Cleveland for a first baseman who has a chronic wrist problem and missed spring training and still isn’t back; their starting second baseman fractured his ankle while rounding the bases after hitting a home run in the opener; their former All Star closer was sent to AAA; their eighth inning set up pitcher, who stinks, is on the IR; their starting right fielder, who’s their best player, is injured and only can play in the field sporadically and is off to an awful start; their starting center fielder, who doesn’t know how to play baseball, is hurt and hasn’t played the last several games; their starting catcher went out with a strained back on Friday; their first baseman is a catcher who missed all of last season and never had played first base in the MLB until opening day. What Nutting is doing to Skenes is an outright crime.

You probably know this, but this organization hasn’t won a playoff series since 1979, hasn’t won a division championship since 1992, and has made the playoffs in only six seasons since 1979 and two of those consisted only of a single wild card game. If this organization even had the success that teams like Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, KC and Detroit have had in recent seasons, people would be flocking to PNC Park. As it stands now, they deserve to have an average attendance of 0.
