The sky isn’t falling. This sucks.

No, that's just what you'll be expecting them to do.

It looks like Franklin is staying. Freiermuth and Slade are coming back. Things are looking good for next year. This sucks.

Many don't like our DBs this year and we lose our two best (Reid & Taylor). Many don't like our WRs this year and we might lose our best (Hamler) and our best prospect (Shorter). Many don't like our DEs and we probably lose our best (Matos). That sucks!

And how has Shorter demonstrated he is any kind of player?

I guess its okay for those fans of mediocrity that are satisfied with winning 9-11 games every year and finishing 6-15 in the nation. But we are elite fans.....if Franklin will not listen to us here....he and his bunch of lousy coaches need to go!

I was joking with Bob.

I have no idea what this team will look like next year. It depends on who leaves and who stays. DB & WR look like the weakest spots.

I previously said that I think Shorter is a big loss. He dropped several passes but he has great size and he was a 5* recruit for a reason. He was good enough to be listed as a starter and he has 3 yrs of eligibility remaining. I think it's too early to consider him a bust. We'll never know the story surrounding his departure but I doubt it was because the staff no longer wanted him.

He was a 5* mostly based on his size and his potential. Kid is talented but a lot of people questioned why he got that ranking at the time.

I'm constantly amazed how great people think these kids are when we get them and how bad people think they are when we lose them.

That seemed to be the sentiment with Flemming this year too.

Here is what I said about Fleming.....and I said it long before he chose OSU over PSU. He will be 19 in a few days. He plays against mostly 16 and 17 year old kids with nowhere near the ability he has. It is very possible that a current 4 star WR prospect will surpass his production as they have a greater "upside."
Having talent is not always enough. Even a 5 star prospect needs to continue to work constantly to grow his game. Running routes like you did in high school and failing to come back or up to the ball won't cut it when the DBs are D1 talent as well. I think this is what happened to Shorter and instead of honing his craft, he blamed his lack of progress on the coaches.

Next year boils down to one game -- can they beat Ohio State at home?

If not, more of the same 10-2 or 9-3 stuff. But if they can finally do it, and they should, then maybe, just maybe, the final four awaits.

Relax when things are going well there’s always the hope that everything will still collapse. The fact that the future maybe full of doom should cheer you up.

So you know better than everyone else, huh?

Fleming is currently the #3 ranked composite recruit.

below are the last 4 such recruits.

2019 - Derek Stingley - starting for undefeated LSU as a true freshman.

2018 - Xavier Thomas - first team Freshman all-American

2017 - Cam Akers - broke Florida State’s freshman rushing record

2016 - Greg Little - 37th pick of draft - starting tackle for Carolina Panthers

I don't see anywhere that marshall23 said "I know better than everyone else". I see qualifiers like it is very possible and I think. Did I miss something?

Hackenberg #7 National #1 Pro style .9927 ***** How'd that work out?
One thing I learned how to do though, is read and comprehend. My post was aimed at suggesting that a 17 year old 4 star might have a greater up side than Julian Fleming. I never suggested that he would not find any success.
Even a high school coach knows enough to check his junior high roster and look at the birth dates of the players. There is a reason, other than eligibility that this is a routine practice.
No, I certainly don't know better than EVERYONE else, but I go to sleep at night and as I dream I forget more football than you ever hope to know. How about that?
Now go back to being a fanboy and pretend you once strapped it on and played and coached the game. Clown.

ha, good one. I have seen your accolades and experience and it is thorough and impressive indeed.

however, you would be making a poor assumption in stating that your knowledge and experience surpasses mine. It may from a pure apples to apples football comparison(but not by much) and it likely doesn’t when encompassing the totality of my sporting experience.
Liar.

Shorter may very well have blamed his slow progress on the coaches. Even so, he was listed as a starter (with George) for Minnesota and Indiana and second team (behind Dotson) for OSU. He had 3 catches vs. OSU, the same number as Hamler. You would have expected his performance and opportunity to grow next year.

Shorter wouldn't have been listed as a starter if the staff didn't think he was capable. He has 3 more years of eligibility and I expect him to do well wherever he winds up. Maybe he had a bad attitude, wasn't putting in the work, was struggling in class, or simply lost faith in his coaches. We'll probably never know but I doubt seriously if the coaches had simply given up on him. I think it's a big loss.

#1: Our WR routes are usually really, really bad.
#2: Seems to me Shorter got too heavy and thus couldn't get open.

Bad routes + no separation= bad results.

need a spark in this RPO or it won't matter who we recruit, the results will be the same.

Someone posted his Instagram which basically said-he battled adversity this year and looks forward to next yr to build on while at PSU
FWIW, I thought he played better vs Rutgers than he has most of the year. I was happy to see him in there.

BTW, re Shorter... I doubt he'd have been the starter if he were having trouble in school, bad attitude, etc. Didn't I read that Franklin thought Shorter was about to really explode (before Minny, I thought) and have a huge game? Isn't that the game we came out firing in his direction and he had the drops (int)? My point being if i'm right about that, the coaches were seeing great things in practice and waiting for it to work out in the games.

And if Franklin said it about someone else... well, i'm old, i forget stuff lol.
