The very OFFENSIVE LINE makes

Seriously, the OL is the difference between PSU and OSU over the years. I'm not saying everything else is equal but it's been noticeable that the OLs are the biggest difference. Get that fixed and who knows.
That and the team needs a truly great QB. Notice how Clemson has 3 losses now that Lawrence is in the NFL? Your comment about the OL is spot on, but wasn’t that why we hired Trsutwein? 9 of his 10 OL made all conference in the 2 years he was at BC. Surely he deserves some of the blame for the lousy OL play IMO.

Good points and I'm not trying to make excuses for the PSU RBs, but - obviously - their troubles start at the LOS. Man. PSU is so close yet so far away

I’ve really never been able to grasp that so close yet so far far concept in any phase of life.

Is it coaching or the passive blocking scheme Franklin loves so much?

How many OL coaches has Franklin had? 4 or 5? It's not the OL coaching.

this team unwatchable. Not one of them is even mediocre. Who is responsible for this clusterf**k?
This is only the second PSU game I watched this year. I view PSU football as a team that can lineup and get three yards whenever. That oline was not good today

What is it then? Coaching stability, scheme, player development, toughness, strength?

It has to be something.

Salt peter being served at the training table of the O-line. I'm sure of it.

The OL is not good, the RB's are not good, 1 WR is really good, 3 pretty good TE's.

I'd say take a look at the priorities of how we recruit. Something isn't right with how we evaluate talent.
Forinbstance: WR are thin and get pushed around. Where are the Godwins, Robinsons etc. RB's - no power backs, no big bruisers and the back with speed (Ford) doesn't play so maybe he/they cant block. That Michigan back today was great/powerful. We need that. OL - hardest position to recruit so maybe change what you look for here. I asked Mike Bellotti the former Duck coach that question once and he said its the hardest position to figure out. The guys aren't mature yet but you look for quick feet, thickness in wrists, butt etc and especially attitude. They have to be fighters. And you don''t know if they will be tough enough until they get on a college field and go up against other big tough kids for the first time in their lives.

We obviously need to do something different at some of our positions. Maybe we can raid the transfer portal again this winter. Between that and Jr College transfers they are some of the best players on our defense.

Criticism of the lousy OL play is justified, but isn’t that why they hired Trautwein 2 years ago? His offensive line play was great at BC. I think he deserves some of the blame.

Different scheme. More of a pro scheme than this RPO. OL knows if it is a run or pass. But still our OT got beat like a drum over and over again, this wasn't scheme. It was really the difference in this game. When Clifford had time he usually got the job done. I believe it was 6 or 7 sacks our OTs gave up today.

Part of it is the recruits JF has gone after, more athletic, taller guys. They need to find a few more inner city or rural country boys who aren't as athletic but are mean/grinders.

If PSU had 2 OG who were Wisconsin type OG they would average a yd more per carry for sure. Traut needs to recruit the OL not JF

Quit the zone/RPO shit and just push people around on running plays, and keep them in front of you on passing plays. Too much cutesy nonsense, like the unnecessary fake field goal that everyone knew was coming. And stop trying to get 20+ yards when you only need a handful for a fresh set of downs.

I don’t listen to Captain Obvious anymore. Like with most salespeople, you have to watch what they do. That speaks volumes!

Each week its either decent pass blocking or terrible run blocking. Yesterday, its decent run blocking and terrible pass blocking with 7 sacks. Take away Stouts FG fumble and you have almost 130 rushing yards, which is more than their rolling average of 106 per game this year. It still stinks as a stat, but I just don't understand why the OL cannot do both effectively within a game.

There just is so little growth and maturity as an OL over the course of the year that makes me question what's being coached in terms of technique or studied in the film rooms.

My try at explaining the concept...It's like you've got a 100 foot span to cross and you've built a 90 foot bridge. In other words you will never get where you want to go unless you finish the job.
