Theoretical new weight classes

Lack of effective coaching and a frame that's really built for the nonexistent 220 class.
Speaking of 220 , with scholarships increasing I do think 220sh weight really should be considered.
It's good for a lot of guys coming out of high school with some growth potential such as Feldman, Kueter and Pitzer.
It connects to Olympic weight .
It eliminates tie breaker in dual match.
It allows truly the big guys to have their own party .

That all sounds good and everything but in reality there are way more good wrestlers between 141 and 184 not starting due to limited weight availability than there are 215 pounders.

You can play with the weights and create an extra spot at mid weights. It doesn't have to be 197 ,220, Hwy.
Such as,
125,132,140,148,156,164,172,181,190,215,Hvy

Men's freestyle wrestling

  • 57 kg (125 lbs)
  • 61 kg (134 lbs) (non-Olympic class)
  • 65 kg (143 lbs)
  • 70 kg (154 lbs) (non-Olympic class)
  • 74 kg (163 lbs)
  • 79 kg (174 lbs) (non-Olympic class)
  • 86 kg (190 lbs)
  • 92 kg (203 lbs) (non-Olympic class)
  • 97 kg (214 lbs)
  • 125 kg (276 lbs)
Why not just use these weight classes and align internationally?

Why are there 4 non Olympic classes, anyway!

If you recall, about 10 years the IOC voted to remove wrestling (all ten weights) entirely from the Olympics. This decision was reconsidered and wrestling was not eliminated, but was reduced from ten weights to six weights.

It's generally believed that these decisions were because wrestling is one of the less popular and profitable events at the Olympics. Some also considered wrestling too similar to judo, another Olympic sport. Also, the Olympics continues to expand to newer, less conventional "sports" that are considered more popular to the masses. These include free-style skate-boarding, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gynamistics, trampolining, etc.
Rhythmic Gymnastics...and the DEI of Olympic Sports. Word on the street is that Wrestling may be replaced by Under Water Basket Weaving or they stupid thing where people stack cups as fast as they can. It's so hot right now on Tik Tok. Gimme a break.

How about 285 becoming unlimited, could have some high school oline and dlinemen maybe take up wrestling, not having a big weight cut.

Go back and look at PA states 215/285. The talent simply isn't there. Max 9 competent future D1 starters combined in AA/AAA at those 2 weights. (Add Pitzer who was ineligible, and it's max 10.) In the best state in the country.

Reiterating what I said about the AAA 285 semis -- the 2 guys in the bottom half are both football commits and made the right choice.

As noted before it doesn't have to be 197,220 and Heavyweight. Seems to me if highschool has 13 weights, College coaches could fill a 11 weight roster. Certainly in highschool which consist of half the roster 16 and younger the upper weights would be thin. Those 16 year olds grow up and get bigger by age 20
