The video will be mostly of wildlife and other outdoors scenes.

No idea what to get in terms of the various features.

Any recommendations?

Probably should get a point and shoot that also has recording capability. Def want electronic stabilizing for certain. 4k video is all the rage but these files eat massive amounts of data and thus you need good storage. 4k is the new standard but 1080hd is still great. I picked this up on black Friday for 220 and it is BADASS. Keep an eye out for any sales... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/canon-p...-digital-camera-black/2761156.p?skuId=2761156

How much are you looking to spend? If a point and shoot, consider the Sony rx100. Have it, love it. If you're doing nature, you might want an SLR because of the lens zoom options. Of course, they are pricier. All cameras do video these days too. Don't forget the memory card, most don't come with one.

I like my Canon Rebel SL1 though I use it more for still photography. DO, do do, get a tripod. Helps with camera shake (which is actually people shake).....

I think you have to decide if you want to give a point and shoot that also takes video, or a dedicated video camera Nikon cool pix makes some really nice point n shoot w video. The cameras are water proof some even at depth some have the ability to record your gps location as well as evelation might be nice if logging locations of wildlife
