This could be interesting... Or, it could be nothing.

So, USAW is putting on a 2020 Senior Nationals in October in Iowa. They better let fans in, or I'm sneaking in, somehow. Anyways, everybody's kinda been like "Wtf for?" Is this to be prepared for in case there is a Worlds this year? Is it just an opportunity to get match prep for Trials/Olympics (should we have those opportunities this next year)?

USAW put out an interesting wrinkle into it, by releasing that anybody who places Top 8 qualifies for an Olympic Redshirt: https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestli...-Nationals-added-to-Olympic-redshirt-criteria

Do you think you'll see more college-aged competitors trying to secure that opportunity (if they didn't have one, prior)? With everything up in the air, having that in the back pocket could certainly make a difference.

Here's to hoping this is a good first step to getting back on-track for 2021.

I'm with you Crop... don't even want to try and look forward. If they do make this the official requirement for an Olympic RS then I think we'll see a lot of college kids...

If the event happens: yes -- I'd expect every healthy college wrestler who is eligible to compete at Sr Nationals, will be there.

Also note that it's in October-- before a traditional college season would begin. So no conflict with duals or regular season tourneys.

The link above lists the eligibility for an Olympic Redshirt as....

”Only required to meet one criteria
1) Past National Team members (Top 3 from the World or Olympic Team Trials)
2) Top 8 at the April 2019 Senior US Open
3) Top 8 at the December 2019 Senior US Nationals Olympic Trials Qualifier
4) Top 8 at the October 2020 Senior US Nationals
5) Top 3 at the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championship or NCAA
Champion from a previous year AND top 2 from the 2019 U23 World Team Trials (must accomplish both)
6) Previous Cadet, Junior, U23 World Medalist”

For PSU, I think these guys are already eligible...
Criteria 2, Bartlett
Criteria 3, Brooks, Kerk, Nick Lee
Guys I believe are eligible from JRs or other... Berge, Verk, Manville

Am I missing any? Did Howard win a Cadet medal?

Howard lost bronze match and was 5th at Cadet Worlds

I think Cassar should take an Olympic redshirt to just in case he ever decided to come back. He would have the eligibility. Am I correct. He has one year left???

The tough part for the kid, often ignored in these discussions, for an Oly you have to de-enroll from school (at least according to Yanni in his last interview). Usually that decision has to happen in September.

That's because he attends an Ivy League school.

For everyone else, Olympic Shirt provides the option to not take classes.
