This Season has sucked for Phillies fans but...(OT)

In back to back days becomes youngest player since Al Kaline in 1957 to hit two homers with four hits against the Yankees. Just followed it up by becoming first player with back to back 5 RBI games against the Yankees.

It's a start. Maybe you keep Hamels--he does have a good contract. But why Utley is playing is beyond me. It's time for him to retire.

Yeah they just put him on the DL. He might along with Rollins be might favorite Phillies ever. It was a heck of a run. It's over.

The league will start to pitch around him. But, that is not a bad thing. I can't believe how badly Utley is playing. I really thought he would "slowly" decline and have couple of years left in the tank. But since no PEDS a player in his mid to late 30s is just about done. As long as team "B (insert name)" is willing to pay older stars big money and long term contracts it's hard to have the "discipline" to let them go. Maybe the Phils have learned their lesson on this?

Another Amaro blunder and to a lesser extent Charlie and Sandberg. They should have been trying to milk a few good last years out of Utley by only playing him about 80 games a year and sitting him at least twice per week and then have a DL stint for 2 weeks in early August during the dog days so he would have something left in the tank in September. But instead they kept rolling Utley out every day they could and wore him down. Same goes with Chooch. Both of those guys could have been productive players if they were handled properly and allowed to play less in their waning years.

I like Franco but the question is how will he be hitting a month from now when pitchers start to have the book on what he hits well and doesn't hit and start pitching him different. Will he be able to adapt. MLB is full of guys that had a huge first 2-3 months but when pitchers found the weak spot, could never adapt to it. I will say I do not think he will end up another Dom Brown with huge expectations that are never met. I never like Brown's swing as it was just way too long and you could tell that he would have issues hitting MLB pitching, I do not see that in Franco's swing.

So true and this is true but the cool thing is he is the one adjusting at the more rapid rate. The book on a lot of his extreme weaknesses were out there. Players turn into superstars when they start doing things he is doing right now.

are you a Phillies and steelers fan?

I was confused at a young age. And especially in the middle of the state. My mother's side were all huge Steelers fans and didn't care about baseball. My father's side we are all Phillies fans. I love both sports. I hate even having to defend it all the time but yeah it is true haha

Count me in this group; born in Pittsburgh, lived in the Philadelphia area for a longer period of time; Pirates ultimately were too discouraging, and Eagles fans a negative. Some of my buddies called me a front-runner when times were different; now I'm on the wrong side, at least for baseball. ;)

For what it's worth, I remember when Schmidt joined the Phillies; they sucked and he struck out a million times but you could watch him and think to yourself that he'd in time become one of the greatest ever. I don't know this Franco kid, but watching the youngsters develop into superstars has always been a big factor for anyone who's a real baseball fan. It's a life-long thing, it's something of great value.

Can they make Utley the manager and can Sandberg? Kidding (kind of).

A lot of fans in PHL would go for that. Chase is untouchable in this town.

The Phils should trade Hamels and reap the young talent they receive in return. He is 31 and probably will not have much left in the tank when they are good again. He is a very good pitcher. I do not want him to go to the Red Sox after the trash their media has written about any Hamels trade and the subpar offers from the Sox.

If the Red Sox want to be relevant at all this season they NEED Hamels. He is that good. For the most part he has been a workhorse. I'm sure the Sox wanted to get him as part of a "fire sale", but on this I have to agree with Amaro. True #1 pitchers are quite rare. The Sox also have enough young talent to part with in a trade. Remember "young talent" does not always translate to the majors. They just need to spin the story to value Hamels not de-value, since that approach has failed :)
