Today’s BOT meetings will be reported on Twitter

.... and no offense... no dis-respect... but with all seriousness... Why should we care about this BOT meeting? Is it going to be any different than any of the other meaningless, and non-productive BOT meetings over the past years???

At the regular site

What is RPMC (RPMCo)?

Assuming it stands for Research Park Mgmt. Company.

Is it a private company?

Unreal..... but, typical

Honestly, I think I'd rather see FEWER alumni reps given their apparent complete lack of interest in the actual responsibility the position comes with. Are there transcripts of the meetings or just minutes? I'd love to see what else Jay, Brandon, etc. have to say about anything. They come here once a year for the votes then disappear.

A $60.57 million parking deck for 1,653 parking spots. $36,642 per spot. That's more than a full year of tuition paid by an in-state Penn State student. Those are going to be some sweet, sweet parking spaces.
A quick Google search suggests we are going to be mighty proud of this sweet, new Penn State parking deck. No expense will be spared as we set a new standard of excellence for the construction of parking decks:

As of March 2017, our statistical data indicates that the median construction cost for a new parking structure is $19,700 per space and $59.06 per square foot, increasing 3.5% from March 2016, when the median cost was $19,037 per space based on our historical database.

Come on, guys. That price per parking spot is way too close to the 2018 student tuition number to be a coincidence. My guess is that they proposed and approved the highest number possible that falls under the projected 2020 student tuition numbers. Keeps 'em under the radar despite doubling the average cost.

Who is the beneficiary here?

You do realize that cost also includes two CATA bus stops and a bus turnaround, a bicycle repair shop on the ground floor, roof design for solar panels, extension of White Course Drive and expanded storm water basin to accommodate the planned West Campus College of Engineering buildings. How much of that cost goes to those other projects?

Curbing and a bench for a bus stop and an air pump for bike tires?

Probably around $50,000....... $49,500 of it for the bus stop curbing.

So..... yeah..... I guess that explains 0.08% of the cost

:)

(And I would bet a good % of “parking garages” have mass transit stops integrated into the system........ nice try though)

Barry, do we know who had the winning bid to build this state-of-the-art parking deck?
We know who PICKED the winner...... which is kinda’ even more important.

(Not to be “that guy”.... but I’m finishing up a BLOG on the topic that I’ll probably make live next week. In direct answer to your question - I do not believe it was announced at the meeting today)

Barron is too worried about his $70 million royal garden construction that has already begun. Here is a guy who has no business running PSU but is a lackey for the trustees. Who, since he left FSU, has seen that school’s academic ranking elevate ahead PSU’s which has really dropped. Unbelievable! Talk about fleecing.

Using twitter makes sense since you can sum up any meaningful accomplishment of the board in 256 characters.
