Penn State Football DC Tom Allen has been named a Semifinalist for the Broyles Award, annually given to CFB's top assistant coach.
Other than this past week it sometimes seems like he only coached half the game after observing in the first half.A lot of people here are going to be surprised by this one
It’s not the X’s and O’s. It’s the Jimmy’s and Joe’s.Other than this past week it sometimes seems like he only coached half the game after observing in the first half.
I think we exaggerate that but, yes, he has relied on adjustments which often didn't come (or have an impact) until the half in multiple games. He's still done a great job even if he's not Manny DiazOther than this past week it sometimes seems like he only coached half the game after observing in the first half.
He might be an upgrade in terms of consistency. Manny's defenses often gave up home runs, and that isn't unique to his time here. I think he had better talent than in some previous stops, so most of the time his scheme worked, but when it failed it was often spectacularly.I think we exaggerate that but, yes, he has relied on adjustments which often didn't come (or have an impact) until the half in multiple games. And we’ve had some major injuries on defense too. I think he’s done a really good job.I think we exaggerate that but, yes, he has relied on adjustments which often didn't come (or have an impact) until the half in multiple games. He's still done a great job even if he's not Manny Diaz
No, he's not Manny Diaz, but he's a damn good coach.I think we exaggerate that but, yes, he has relied on adjustments which often didn't come (or have an impact) until the half in multiple games. He's still done a great job even if he's not Manny Diaz
Manny has kind of a cool factor to him, so maybe that helps in relating to recruits. But we always had trouble with Indiana with Allen there. Not surprised he's been good. No, he's not Manny Diaz, but he's a damn good coach.
I've been saying for some time that when it comes to the most important stat, keeping the other team from scoring, Penn State's D has done yeoman's work this season. The worst performances were Bowling Green, USC, and Minnesota, all games that Penn State won. The OSU performance was the next worst, but the PSU D got that pick-six, and so helped the offense by that much. It was really the offense that didn't get the job done in that game. Otherwise, so far, the D has held teams to 13 points or less. Given that it's Allen's first year - well, I'm impressed. I think too many people focus on individual play and mistakes and whatnot. I don't care if the D allows a big play now and then as long as they keep the other team from scoring.A lot of people here are going to be surprised by this one
