TOM: "What Grinds My Gears: Iowa Fans"

Meh...he states:

"I love 99% of the fans at Iowa wrestling events. They are knowledgeable, passionate, friendly people. They love their wrestling and their emotions rise and fall with their Hawkeyes."

Then goes on to state this:

"We just need to, as a group, start smothering the fools who have latched onto the wagon. We are as much to blame for letting it get to this point as the jackanapes screaming ill-timed advice to the referees. That is why Iowa Hawkeye fans Grind my Gears."

<Yawn>

Screams click bait. Not their best work but I will give them a pass since I agree with the subject matter.

Every fan-base has lower-level humans... Iowa just gets broad-brushed into this stereotype because it fits narratives. I do it, all of the time. Guys like Turk and AZ seem like decent humans, but Hawkeye fans are still stall-craving, obnoxious folks. I am too.

It's not fair to put them all in that box, but it's just too fun. This sport is all about conflict. That's the beauty of it.

I just want to say that I love all Iowa fans and they are the best fans in the world

after further thought

I can't stand any Iowa fans and they all are heartless wenches, scum sucking pigs and sons of motherless goats

You don't hear me yelling stalling at my computer screen

Part of the issue is that Iowa has traditionally had the biggest fan base. In absolute terms, that makes the "bad-apple" 1% bigger, louder, and more influential than anyone else's bad-apple 1%.

Similarly, I think most would agree that PSU's bad-apple 1% has become much more noticeable (and unbearable) since the fan base (or active/vocal fan base, at least) exploded A.C. That 1% is much louder these days, "grinding gears" with the best of them (e.g., Iowa, Togs, JammenX).

I still find "What's he doing on bottom??!" humorous.

Also like when the kids in the stands mimic the back-up beeper of construction vehicle. Lol

But yelling "Stalling!!!" is extremely annoying.

"Is this a zoo? We got a turtle on bottom!"
I'm a big fan of counting how long someone holds onto a stall ride (ankles, parallel)... Got bench-warned for that once.
"He has to try to get up, right? That's the idea, isn't it?" If you add the first name of the ref on this one, it's gold.
"He's mopping the mat with his belly!"

I try to at least be creative with my official-jeering and stall-begging.

....... But Nothing will ever beat Cael's monotone statement to the ref during a Nick Heflin match:

"You're killing our sport"

On that note, which prospective assignment would you dread most -- officiating a PSU dual or an Iowa dual? Terse sarcasm that makes you feel terrible about yourself (Cael) vs. violent jumping beans, chronic control-of-mat-area violations, and borderline lunacy (Brands)? Obviously, a PSU vs. Iowa dual would be the winner . . . so which of the two teams alone would you most dread being assigned to officiate?
