Toughest Professor/Instructor you had in college

On a similar vein, some of my Art History profs would include a type of question on their quizzes & exams that I thought was genius. They would show a piece of art by an artist that was covered in class, but not that particular work. Then you had to identify the artist and support your choice with reasons why. It really forced you to focus on the artist’s style, techniques, themes, etc. rather than just memorizing images and dates. They typically gave most of the points on the strength of your argument, not just guessing the right artist.

Ah, Art History. Still have the text and learned a lot in that class. I took it at a branch campus. They were trying a new approach, teaching the class without an instructor but using audio/visual techniques. Students who decided to take this class using the new technique would be given one higher letter grade than earned thru exams. I took advantage.

I am terrible with foreign languages and in Liberal Arts late (60's) you had to take two courses at 4 credits each. "C’est vraiment des conneries!"
I took French 1 and 2, failing each the 1st time and getting Cs the 2nd time. That gave me the equivalent of 16 credits worth of D's. Fortunately I aced enough History and Poli Sci courses to weather the storm but those French classes damn near killed me. 😠
In the late 60s, I too failed French 20, then got a C, failed French 30 and then got a D. My two Fs remind me of my eternal attitude since then...F the French. The local State College musician from the late 60s and early 70s, Terry Beard, was a classmate in all four of my French classes and we commiserated about the freaking French language that we struggled with.

Savash Yavuzkurt for Fluid Flow (ME33). He was more interested in getting the heck out of the classroom and down to Cafe 210. Apparently some other students would meet him there. He tended to skip a lot of the important stuff in "teaching" us the material.

I took Accounting 101 my Junior year. Lots of football players in the class...Eddie Johnson, Brennan Gaertner and Matt Johnson are guys I remember. The "Prof" was a foreign exchange T.A. from South Asia. Nobody could understand him. Matt and I ended up sitting next to each other in the front row from the 2nd meeting on. We teamed with a very studious young lady and between the three of us we had just enough of a clue to pass with strong grades. But it sure was a lot harder than it needed to be. I still remember us trying to figure out what the He'll a "Racey Pro Cal" was. Aha!!!....Reciprocal- made a lot more sense to read the book before the lecture and refer to it like a dictionary throughout.

The toughest one I had was Dr Lambert for Food Service Layout & Design. It wasn't that the class was tough (which it was)...but she was pregnant for the first half of the term (back when we had 10 week terms). Class was Monday and Thursday. She gave birth Wed night. Thurs AM that was a sign at the HRIM office about her baby's arrival. Our class was the afternoon so we skipped it since she had to be recovering. NOPE! She still showed up the day after giving birth and was furious. I think 4 kids showed up. I'll tell you that next Monday class was a sheer ballbuster as well as the rest of the term. She took no prisoners after that.
