FB Recruiting Transfer WR Tinsely commits to Penn State

I guess I’m pissy the snake on this kid. Granted I saw exactly one play online but he seems in the mold of Lee or Cain. No knockdown speed. I hope I’m wrong.

Justin Shorter was a big loss no matter what the initial thoughts about his play at PSU. The announcer at the UCF Bowl game stated that Shorter was beating the UCF DB's off the LOS all game. If anyone watched the the UM at the Beav a couple years back when KJ was the center piece of the offense, again, Shorter was beating the UM DB's time and again all game. Yet SC never even through one pass in his direction the entire game. I believe that UM game was a big reason why he transferred. SC has a bad habit off locking in on only one WR and will throw to them, open or not. Think KJ and Dotson.

While I agree that Shorter has incredible talent in some respects (size and strength as a WR) his production at Florida has been pretty average. 41 receptions averaging 13.4 yards per catch, as the clear #2 WR for the Gators (their #1 still only had 41 catches, Copeland, but averaged 15.7 yards).

Shorter just dropped too many passes right to him while at PSU, and in the limited time I watched him at FL he still did not make tough catches. His production even this season, as a Senior, was more on line with PSU's KLS who was the clear #3 WR at PSU.

So although Shorter is a big strong talented WR, gets off the LOS well, and may make a living for a little while on Sundays, I wish him well and am more happy with the WR's that replaced him at PSU than what Shorter likely would have done had he stayed.

And getting Tinsley, a high production WR, to compliment Washington, KLS, Meiga and the great group of young WR's PSU has brought in within the last 2 classes seems like a great way to begin the off season!

EDIT: Copeland, Florida's #1 WR in 2021 is transferring to Maryland.

Why are you comparing a WR to RBs?
It was more comparing what they look like on film more than anything. When you watch Lee and Cain they look clunky. When I watched that one play I saw clunky. That’s all. Sorry if my opinion offended anyone. I am also happy he is a Lion now. Just for reference I think KLS and Meiga look clunky as well.

Tinsley looks impressive on film, even against MSU. I like that size for a WR 6-1, 185 or so, much like the size of all the WR's on OSU and Bama.

I just wish SC would have targeted Shorter just once against UM since he was beating their DB's off the LOS big time. I know he had a problem with drops or being more aggressive for 50-50 balls which should not have been the case with his size; should have been more like 90-10 balls.

Looks more like 5'11", 200. But it doesn't matter as he plays strong, seems hard to knock off his routes, an seems to come up with contested catches, which is what we need to replace Dotson.

If he enrolls in January maybe they can put him on the rack and get him to 6'2" !!
;)

Oh just stop. Shorter was not a big loss. Your comments sound like you are his agent or something. Always someone else’s fault right. Well he was responsible for not being in shape one season and dropping too many passes Any fair assessment of Shorter is that he never lived up to his hype and on balance underachieved during his college career.

Looks like a player for sure. Agree with your comments and the only slight “downside” is he doesn’t appear to have Dotson’s breakaway speed. Reminds me a little of Robinson with his ability to make contested catches. Good pickup by any measure.

Not sure what you mean by “clunky”. Thought Lee and Cain looked hesitant and like they were running in mud.

Just an opinion sport. If you do not agree state so. You mention "too many drops" I saw one maybe two. How about Gesecki his first year!!!

When I mention big time loss, he is doing fairly well at Florida. Outside of Dotson and Washington who did we have for a 3rd or 4th receiver. Lambert Smith hasn't shown a thing yet and CSB was way below average, at best.

How many passes did he drop since you are the board expert on WR's?

The commentators at the Bowl Game stated that he was beating the UCF DB's "time and again" off the LOS. We certainly could have used a WR like that this year. Maybe he was unmotivated since SC never targeted him since he was obsessed with KJ.

Well, when you drop over and over again of course a QB is going to focus on WRs with better reliability.

Get a key guy out of the portal who, in 1 year, has almost 500 more yards and 8 more TDs than a crumb bum who left has in 3 full seasons.

And yet there are multiple posts about this crumb bum littering this thread.

You saying he did fairly well at Florida has me really confused of what “fairly” actually means. Julian Fleming is a fairly good wr at OSU. Ricky Slade had a fairly amount of fumbles at State.

Shorter was only targeted 28 times at PSU in two years. 15 receptions. I know there were drops but there wasn’t much action thrown his way to get any kind of rhythm going.

And I am entitled to mine dude. I stand by my comments. Recall Franklin saying he looked like a cheeseburger short of being a TE. Given the hype when the recruited him, he was a disappointment by any measure.

Yeah some people think that all of the players who leave become all stars despite the fact that their stats say otherwise.

For the record, Shorter had 41 catches for 550 yards and 3 TDS this year while Parker Washington had 57 for 772 yards and 4 TDS. Doesn’t sound like a big loss to me.
I believe In his time at Florida he put up decent numbers against 1 good team. The rest of the numbers were against sub par competition. He did t produce at PSU and ran away to not produce elsewhere. I am glad he will be ok from his injury the other night but he will be nothing more than a UFA.
