Reseeding is a stupid idea. Simplifying the "rankings" and the "bracket filling"

Method 1.
In the Big 2 era...and in a world where byes aren't all their cracked up to be...give the top 2 conference champs bye. Then 3 through 12 get seeded regularly. The overall "seeding" becomes less wacky like it was this year...but you still do place importance on winning the CCG.

1 Oregon
2 Georgia

16 Clemson at 3 Texas
13 Miami at 4 Penn State
12 Arizona St at 5 Notre Dame
11 Alabama at 6 Ohio St
10 SMU at 7 Tennessee
9 Boise St at 8 Indiana

The CFP was playing with the idea of more first-round games by expanding to 14 games. This would do it, while also cleaning up the screwy match-ups.

Method 2.
But I'd prefer giving byes to TWO top CCGs and then use overall seeding.

We don't need 3-loss SEC teams and 3rd place ACC teams in this thing. Let's keep it at 12. And those match-ups make a lot more sense than what we saw on Fri/Sat...and how odd our New Year's matchups are.

I think this is what should have been done and your first option of 14 is likely what will be done in 2026.
I'm very curious to see how many 3 loss Big Ten and SEC teams get in next year because giving the smaller programs like SMU and Indiana an opportunity only created more pressure to put in the Bamas of the world...fair or not just what happenee

I would prefer that straight seeding be used and the conference champions be ignored. Let the committee simply pick the best 12 teams taking into consideration the results of the conference championship games but not giving the winner special preference. If all 12 CFP playoff teams come from the SEC and BIG then so be it. This year's CFP had two ACC frauds and another likely pretender in Boise.

IMO, the current risk reward of playing in a conf champ game simply isn’t worth it. “Earning” the right to play in an extra game to risk injury while others don’t have to is just plain stoopid.

There is no way to do this without, at some point, it being a beauty contest. I’d get rid of the auto bids as we see the CCG participants all qualifying. I’d add transparency to the ranking process and make it mathematical to minimize ambiguity and opinion. It would include SOS. From there it is what it is.

At this point nobody has a legit claim if they have two losses. You can see the difference between a 3 Seed and a 12 seed. One can complain about Indy or SMU but they have to also consider TN getting blown out (worst blow out so far).

There will always be bitching.

Actually, SMU was worst blowout (28 points). Tennessee was 2nd worst at 25 Points.

Then people would complain about Boise State getting an easy draw against Indiana or vice versa.
