1 - Of all the things we will miss if Godwin goes to the NFL (and his portfolio of incredible catches goes without saying)......he was the most effective and determined downfield blocker we have had at the WR position in a long, long, long time (like - maybe - ever)

2 - Already anticipating Pitt's and UMich's trips to State College
The two teams that PSU lost to - - - - and with a good offseason, I could picture PSU kicking them both in the nutz in 2017 (FWIW, UMich will have nearly ZERO upperclass talent in 2017....they will be relying a TON on 1st and 2nd year guys - a lot of whom I am sure are athletic talents, but there is no substitute for those experienced guys)

1. Could not agree any more. He does everything you need to do as a WR, and then some. Going to miss him whenever he decides to go.

2. I can not wait for next year as a whole. All I know is that I feel really bad for Akron (well I really don't, but they chose the wrong time to come to Happy Valley), as they are going to run into one hell of a buzz saw on the 2nd of Sept. As for Pitt and Mich, a curb stomping could be coming, and I can not wait.

1 - out of all of the posts on this board today, these are the 2 that I agreed with the most
2 - I hope these guys work even harder this offseason than they did last year

U of M will only have room for 32 recruits next year with their lack of upper class man.

Jim H checking to see if USC QB can transfer to Michigan without sitting out the year. He will be checking directly with Delaney on this question.

#1 - Absolutely. Godwin is a really good, complete college WR. Others on this squad are very good, and Godwin excels.

As for WRs blocking downfield, I think PSU has a long history of coaching / teaching the importance of that. I recall some old JVP interviews where he alluded to playing time being less than it might otherwise be for WRs who did not block downfield and RBs who did not pick up blitzes well. I recall players talking about it. I have made a point of noticing it for decades. PSU is generally excellent at this aspect of the game. There are slips and misses and a player here and there who takes a play off at the wrong time, but overall, I'll take ours vs. anyone's in this area.

I watch as much college football as anyone, and while nearly all the top teams each season have WRs who are good at blocking downfield, it is not an across-the-board thing. Some WRs just aren't good at it, or don't want to, and it shows. Some are better all-around and understand the importance of it in the team concept.

#2. Has Franklin called for white-outs for these games yet?!
Has Spyker called for cupped hands yet?!

Can't argue with this at all....

And we found out a bit about the your last point this year. Next year, we should have more experience.

FWIW.....a reasonable "best guess" depth chart for UMich heading into spring
(with the caveat that "a lot can happen" between now and October)

Offensively:

QB - Speight (JR) ........ Nothing special

TB - Evans (SO) .......Nothing special
(will Kareem Walker get his academic shit in order - and break UMich's deplorable track record w "5 Star" TBs?)

FB - Hill (SR) ..........Really good FB

WR - Harris (JR) and Perry (JR) McDoom (SO) Tr Fr? or Two?.........Combined for 20 catches for 253 yards 1TD - - - 3 Seniors they lose - Darboh Chesson and Butt combined for 138 catches for 1908 yards and 13 TD

TE - Asiasi (SO) / Bunting (SR) .........7 catches for 64 yards 1 TD

OL - Lose at least three guys - - - with combined 116 games started

OT - Bushell-Beatty (JR) and Onwenu? (FR) maybe Kugler (SR)?.......0 starts in their careers

OG - Newsome (JR) and Bredeson (SO).......Newsome is a beast, coming back off of injury. Bredeson was "powned" this year when called on to replace Newsome

OC - Cole (SR)........assuming he comes back. Potentially solid OC (former OT) who had a poor year in 2016

Defensively:

DE - Gary (SO) and Winovich (JR) ........4 career starts between them, though Gary is a potential beast. Winovich plays that combo DE/LB spot

DT - Mone (SR) and ??? (Tr Fr? Dwoumfor?) ........1 career start between them

LB - Furbush (JR) and Bush (SO) and TrFr?.........0 career starts among them. Bush could end up being quite good

CB - Long (SO) LHill (SO) TrFr?.........0 career starts

S - Hudson (SO) (if he is not stationed at OLB...maybe the 2017 "Jabrill Peppers" :) ) Metellus (SO) Kinnell (JR) ........0 career starts

And, they also lose their top performer from the Orange Bowl - P/PK Kenny Allen.

Again, a lot can happen....and they certainly have talent in their 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes......but, as an opponent, ya' gotta' like the looks of that depth chart :)

If PSU heads into this game 6-0 (a real possibility)....and lays a licking on UMich:

In the words of Gus Johnson: "Uh Oh!!" It could get interesting

That look on CJF's face as McSorley went deep (again and again) against MSU in the 4th Q? Wouldn't that be nice to see again.

Paybacks are sweet!!

Remember the pay back in the Michigan State game? Michigan pay back #2 scheduled for Happy Valley in 2017.

Here's hoping JF never lifts off the gas on either Pitt or UM and lay's a biblical beat down on them.

It's fun to think about it, but I have a feeling both teams will be ready when the time comes.

my friend is a Michigan band wagon jumper... he says they'll simply re-load next year... it's one thing to "re-load"... it's another thing to replace this many starters. I see it as more of a "rebuild" for 2018. I see 7-5

If a "so-so" Florida team kicks the ass in the opener....we'll have a pretty good indication

He's a dynamite blocker - e.g., his crackback block sprung Barkley for what was almost the game-clinching 1st down on the penultimate drive. That said, I think you're giving short shrift to some other guys. On the current team almost to a man our WR's get after it. Barkley doesn't score the 79-yarder w/o Hamilton's block. Blacknall & Charles have had key blocks that led to splash plays on a couple of occasions this year. Going back recently, ARob was a superstar who also set the tone blocking.
No question, Godwin will be missed, be it in '17 or '18, but I'm confident that the group has other tone-setters.

Are any of them as good as Godwin?

I didn't say that they were, but I still say that you seem to be minimizing how good the unit is as a whole. With the group ethos being what it is, I'm not worried about a big drop-off

Wasn't "minimizing" ANYTHING.

Here is EXACTLY what I wrote:

Jeebzus!

Shit like this - folks who, apparently, can't read (and comprehend) a written paragraph before they need to insert their "thoughtful counterpoint" :) - just pisses me off more every day.

Christ sake, I disagree w/ you, possibly for the 1st time, & and you wet your panties.

If you're that steamed, excellent, please leave the board, take gunz w/ you, and the two of you can stroke each other somewhere other than my message board

LOL

I could care less if you "disagreed" with me
You could "disagree" with every thought I ever had in my life, and I wouldn't care one iota

That's not what you did......how F ing hard is that concept?

You assumed (for lack of a better word) for no reason whatsoever, and attributed to me, something that I not only didn't say, but something that I don't even believe

That has become the nature of "debate" in every aspect of the Brave New World of the Twitter generation

That's just ignorant and stupid.....NOT disagreeing

I think the clear implication was that the WR's could not make-up for Godwin's blocking. Here's what you wrote: Of all the things we will miss ...." Damned reasonable to reach my conclusion. If you have guys continuing to do the job, no one & no skill is really missed

That said, if I put words in your mouth, fine. You can easily point that out w/o being a prick. I was here to exchange thoughts not play footsie like you & 21 are wont to do. But, whatever. SgtCarter used to regularly threaten me, & it rolled off my back. Hell, I told him where he could find me. If you wish to screech and carry on, so goes the war. It reflects badly on you and means nothing to me
