You really ought to take that quote to the Test Board.Only Alabama gets to invent national championships. Their phony titles reflect the old saying "repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth."
Really? Until the south stands went up a few years ago, the back of the scoreboard listed the NY Times NC of 1994.The unclaimed titles became a big issue in the SEC (and other places) a decade or so ago.
It was like a bidding war. Teams started to go back in history (pre BCS) and see what years they could claim. They didn't limit it to AP and UPI/ coaches polls. If they could find some semi official group that named them as their champion they started to claim them (for those too young or don't remember there were multiple groups that proclaimed national champs each year).
Penn State never went that route- sticking only to 1982 and 1986 but they could claim more if they wanted to.

Yes, really. The back of the scoreboard said NY Times national champions 1994 (IIRC). Penn State has never officially claimed that title.

Why would any school not want to claim as many national championships as it could? In the realm of "mythical" titles, FBS schools should consider each of their unbeaten, untied seasons as MNCs.
^^^ Mother Dunn approves this message. ^^^Actually, historians are now claiming Penn State as the National Champions in both 1911 and 1912. If PSU wanted to, we could officially claim both years, and claim 4 titles instead of 2.
