Uncle Carter

For all the virtriol directed at me and others who say Carter might find the pressure to seek #5 too much to resist despite his spoken words to the contrary, here is a dose of reality.

Carter has to win #4 first, but if he does, the Olympics with be in the rear view mirror before he needs to decide.

MMA and the next worlds can wait a year.

No one knows how this will play out, even Carter. Money, destiny, fame, history, Cael asking, are all strange bedfellows.

Besides, what else will we have to talk about next summer?

He will be back

If you watched the recent interview with Carter, I don’t think money is the number one thing that will impact the decision for number five. He sure sounded like a guy who does not want to do two more years of college classes.

If Carter gets his 4th this year, he may be on a collision course with Keegan O’Toole in 2025.

Can you imagine the epic encounter that would be, especially if KOT wins his 3rd this year? A possible 4-timer vs a possible 5-timer in a final match frenzy.

I've said this here several months ago that if Carter was my son I'd apply serious pressure to come back for 5 if he wins his 4th this year. There's a real possibility that he could be the only 5 timer to ever exist as I don't think "extra" competition years will ever be granted again, regardless of the circumstances.

Here's another thought; Would Carter come back for 4 if he doesn't win this year?

I remember Carter hinting at just that…. what does 5 really mean if no one else is ever going too be even OFFERED the opportunity for 5.

He’s got a point.

I realized KOT has mentioned moving up NEXT year but wouldnt that put him in the same tweener situation as Carter?

You're not wrong but money talks

I don't think so

4 is so difficult that only 5 people have pulled it off since freshmen became eligible to wrestle varsity. Even if no one else gets the chance to do it, winning 5 is still something very special and worth going for. You become the man at the top of the list for posterity. Even Olympic gold doesn't get you that.

I get it, really. I just dont think Carter agrees with you.

Getting 5 would have even less meaning than a baseball playoff record compared to Babe Ruth or any of the 100s of greats who only got to the playoffs if they won the pennant. Meaningless.

Getting 5 would certainly not be meaningless. How much more meaningful than 4 would be up for debate.

It would be as meaningless as winning 4 since a lot of great wrestlers never got the chance to win more than 3 with freshmen ineligibility. Yet, we still talk about 4 timers as something special.

Winning a title every year you're eligible, by rule, is an amazing and meaningful accomplishment. How's that? I say by rule to eliminate not being eligible for grades, suspension... That's on the wrestler.
