Undefeated wrestling seasons ?

This^^^^^Gable Steveson is the Truth, the Whole Truth!!!!

He seems like the next guy who is going to be looked at as the guy who could do it, but we've thought the same thing about lots of guys with just as good of a resume. Spencer Lee is the latest.

The odds of anybody going undefeated in their college career again is pretty low. Even the guys who we think are can't miss end up missing. And even the can't miss guys lose a match. For as good as David Taylor was didn't even win 4 titles. Kyle Dake and Logan Steiber both won 4 titles but they lost along the way. Dake only had one undefeated season. Zain is likely going to finish with 3 titles and probably be undefeated his last three years wrestling. I'd be surprised to see Nolf lose again, but he has two losses in college.

And then you have guys like Chance Marsteller, who beat a college kid or two at the NLO as an 8th grader. He was a rare undefeated HS 4XPIAA state champ. He couldn't even get in the starting lineup at Okie State. And since he has straightened things out at Lock Haven he still lost. Heck, even Spencer Lee is not an undefeated HS wrestler, and he didn't win 4 PIAA state titles. Lee won't even be an undefeated NCAA wrestler and he is as good a prospect as we've ever seen. Nick Suriano? Undefeated NJ 4X Champ? He lost in college. Kyle Snyder? Morgan McIntosh beat him at the NCAA tournament.

Even the best guys lose at this level.

That was Kyven Gadsen. Snyder has gone 2-1-1. McIntosh beat Cox in the consi semis.

One big difference is their respective weight classes. 125 is a meat grinder this year, and will be for as long as Fix and Cruiseliner Nick stay there.

HWT next year, without Snyder and Coon and Kasper and a few others ... still decent but not the same.

And if Steveson shirts, then subtract Nevills and Stoll and Sasquatch, etc. The highest ranked FR/SO is Wood, whom he has demolished. Singletary might be his biggest current underclassman obstacle.

so as far as the board historians know 3 undefeated champs on one team in one season is the "record". Man I forgot quickly about 2012 kind of crazy ....Having more than 3 undefeated wrestlers in one season may be a record never broken ........unless it happens this year.... no pressure guys...

Two - 35-0 as a junior, 37-0 as a senior.

This discussion is exactly why I have to laugh ever time somebody starts questioning the abilities of one of our Champs when they have a close match. I don't think people realize how difficult it is to go undefeated in this sport regardless of how good you are. On top of that, going undefeated and winning virtually ever match by bonus points is almost super human and shouldn't be taken for granted like some on here do.

For some reason I thought he dropped one match his first three years. Still, even as unbeatable as Dake seemed to be, it happened.
Season Bouts Wins Losses Falls Bonus Win Pct.
2013 -----37 ------37 ------0 ------18 -----28 -----100.0%
2012 -----35 ------35 ------0 ------12 -----21 -----100.0%
2011 -----33 ------31 ------2 -------7 ------20 ------93.9%
2010 -----36 ------34 ------2 -------7 ------14 ------94.4%
Total ----141 -----137 ----4 ------44 ------83 ------97.2%

Zain won by forfeit after losing to Mitchell Port as a true freshman to take 5th.

Since then so far, he’s been:
34-0
28-0
16-0 so far this year.

That’s 78 in a row, if my math is correct.
Mitchell Port has to be one of the better wrestlers to never win a title

Yes, but one of many. Bryan Snyder is always first in my mind when I think of that category.
Bryan is a great human being too! Havent talked to him in many years but when I did he came off as a super guy, with his mind and heart in the right places.

And, he's a smart man: fellow sociologist, except that he has a PhD, which is even all the more impressive.

Yes, you can go over to HR and read today where at least one of the guys over there had Lee going undefeated for his entire career after his FIRST MATCH as a collegian, at the UNI Open!

That turned out well (yes, I understand the redshirt thing, just like Sanderson/Jenn).

Snyder beat one of my best friends in the Semi's at Hershey our sr year. They were 1-2 in the rankings. My buddy was up by 1 with 5 seconds to go and they had a restart on neutral and snyder took him down as time expired. I couldn't believe it. Snyder obviously went on to Nebraska my buddy wrestled at American.

Others i think of are usually guys who i watched in hs who never won a title. Jon Trenge and Vertus Jones immediately come to mind, and i thought both were better than Bryan but Byran is a good call as well.
