1) Troy Reeder is a BEAST...THE next great PSU LB IMO.
2) SBarkley is a BEAST...THE next great PSU RB IMO.
3) Nassib was the Player of the Game IMO...no brainer...his wingspan enables him to make plays that other DEs can't quite make...the Buffalo QB's Mom was probably crying in the stands everytime she saw Nassib rushing her son
4) OLIne looked improved...still a long way to go but definite improvement from Temple game...I thought Palmer looked effective in the second half and Barkley made several BIG runs right around Palmer's corner...I really did see progress from Palmer on pass and run plays
5) THERE IS A GOD!!! PSU MOVED HACK OUT OF THE POCKET FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO DISRUPT THE RUSH!!!
6) MAllen is a BIGTIME hitter, something I noticed from the minute he became a starter last year
7) Hack looked comfortable and in-charge today...if the blatant drops were completions people would be talking about him having a GREAT game today...he really didn't throw anything even close to being an INT today
8) Shoop gets caught in too many 3rd and medium blitzes when he brings a Safety down in the box...IMO that's an unnecessary tactic when you have the Front Four that PSU has and you can bring ONE Backer to supplement the rush
9) WTF was Franklin thinking with that late 50 yard FG attempt? It was totally UNNECESSARY to get the extra 3 points at that time with the way the defense was dominating the game...just punt and D it up and give Buffalo a long field...I couldn't believe he did that
10) Playcalling was more creative and well-schemed this week BUT...CAN THAT F-ING WILDCAT PLEASE!!! On a brighter note, a kid like Barkley makes playcalling SO much easier and he also makes playing OLine a LOT easier. Also Polk's speed is being used sparingly but appropriately IMO. I think Donovan uses him at the right time and in the right scheme
11) Thomkins needs to heed the advice I always give my return guys: "You don't need to be spectacular...you just need to be good. Spectacular will just happen when you do the little things right." I was screaming at him the whole time he was losing ground on that one punt return, but otherwise he might end up being a nice weapon back there.
12) Have I mentioned that Reeder and Barkley are BEASTS and will be THE next great PSU LB and RB?
Overall an OK effort and still a LONG way to go, but they did what they needed to do to get that first win under their belts. I saw plenty of reasons to be a little more encouraged, and still too many things to be concerned about.
